In this third installment of Claire Kells’s thrilling National Park mystery series, Investigative Services Branch agent Felicity Harland ventures through volcanic wilderness to investigate a murder at a new hike-in lodge at Pinnacles National Park. When a guest turns up dead at the newly opened Pinnacles Grand Hotel, ISB agent Felicity Harland finds herself summoned to a peculiar scene. A gentle breeze blows in from the balcony window, belying the violence of a man stabbed to death in his hotel room. It’s clear to Harland that this murder was personal, especially when the victim’s wife admits that she wanted him dead. But Harland isn’t so sure that this was a domestic dispute gone bad. When she hears about the Park Service searching for a missing person out on the trails, she sets out with her partner, Ferdinand “Hux” Huxley, to see if the two cases are connected. As Harland and Hux take on the rocky, exposed terrain of California’s ancient volcanic wonderland, they soon realize that the mystery at the Pinnacles Grand is not at all what it seems—and that a predator may be closing in.

Of the forty-five Civil War Battles that the National Park Service lists as “Decisive,” only about half have been preserved by the Park Service. The Federal Government’s preservation efforts have made tiny, out-of-the-way places that shouldn’t be known outside the county in which they are located into sacred names in the American psyche: Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Petersburg, Manassas, Antietam, Spotsylvania, and Shiloh. Many of the other battles, no less important, weren’t so lucky in the allotment of federal dollars. Some of these other battlefields have been lost to time or neglect or urbanization, but just as many have been preserved by states, local governments, or preservation organizations. These are the battlefields, along with other landmarks, that Randy Denmon explores in The Forgotten Trail to Appomattox. It is part military history, part travelogue, and part personal insight, in the spirt of Bill Bryson’s books, such as A Walk in the Woods: it is both informative and entertaining.

Forgotten Trail From Prince Arthur S Landing To Red River written by Neil McQuarrie and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Dawson trail categories.

"In 1870 the almost three-year-old nation of Canada inherited a vast empire. That year the Hudson’s Bay Company ceded its claim to the territory over which it had carried on its fur trade for 200 years. The land stretched from east to west across the continent and north to the Arctic Ocean but the centre of its economic and settlement activity was a tiny community at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, a thousand miles west of Toronto. The question arose as to how these far-distant places could be joined. A railroad through British territory was a financial impossibility and using the rapidly-expanding American railroad system was politically unsavoury. The only solution was to implement a plan that had been suggested ten years earlier by civil engineer Simon Dawson. He proposed the building of a “road” that would use wagons, barges and steamboats to carry people and goods through the 450 miles of wilderness that separated Lake Superior and Red River. This book is the story of the difficult birth, short life and early death of the "Dawson Road"."--from www.mcnallyrobinson.com/9780978480127/neil-mcquarrie/forgotten-trail#.UynxkLdOUdU.

The Forgotten Trail written by Larry Pynn and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Klondike River Valley (Yukon) categories.

Few events loom larger in Canadian history than the Klondike Gold Rush. The most famous path to the gold fields- through Dyea in Alaska, over the Chilkoot Pass, down the Yukon by boat- was by no means the only route travelled by gold seekers. Of the several Canadian gateways to the Klondike, the Stikine route was the most heavily used, but, ironically, the least known and least written about. It involved a gruelling trip up the Stikine River by boat or ice sled as far as the communities of Glenora and Telegraph Creek, then overland by horseback or foot to Teslin Lake, and finally by canoe down the Teslin and Yukon Rivers to Dawson. Intrigued by what evidence of the gold rush still lingered on this century-old trail, Vancouver Sun journalist Larry Pynn set out to retrace the route during the summer of 1992. For six weeks he trekked 1,500 kilometres- on foot, horseback and by canoe. Along the way, Pynn encountered some of Canada's most rugged and beautiful terrain. He also discovered many relics- a wooden telegraph pole teetering in the distance, the skeletal remains of a line cabin- from the long-vanished gold rush era. And there's a cast of colourful characters, from back-to-the-landers and commercial fishermen to miners operating a modern-day gold mine and pilots involved in a daring search-and-rescue of the author himself. A dramatic, modern-day adventure, The Forgotten Trail is a fascinating and entertaining story of Canada's gold rush history.
