Formação Inicial e Continuada de Professores: diálogos sobre Relações Étnico-Raciais e Escola se constitui como mais uma obra que emerge do movimento empreendido pelo Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas sobre Formação de Professores e Relações Étnico-Raciais – NEAB GERA/UFPA no fomento às discussões sobre a temática da Educação para as Relações Étnico-Raciais articulada à formação de professores, a Escola Básica e demais espaços e experiências formativas. A formação inicial de professores é um tema em destaque quando a preocupação é a melhoria da qualidade do ensino ofertado na escola de educação básica. Este livro tem como foco de discussão a Lei 10.639/2003, que busca incluir no currículo escolar conteúdos da história e da cultura africana e afro-brasileira. Destina-se a profissionais da educação que acreditam na importância de problematizar a formação inicial de professores, unida às situações cotidianas escolares em busca da melhoria do ensino. Essa melhoria também se retrata no cumprimento de legislações em vigor. No caso específico da Lei 10.639/2003, afirmo que, quando a escola não a contempla, deixa uma lacuna que pode perpetuar o racismo e não problematizá-lo, potencializando o fracasso escolar de crianças negras. Por tal razão, o futuro professor precisa de instrumentos para trabalhar e ampliar esse currículo quando estiver atuando na escola de educação básica. Necessita de uma formação que se configure em espaços de debate, construção de conhecimentos e da apropriação de um saber que lhe oportunize articular a exigência legal e as situações cotidianas escolares. Nesse cenário, o currículo da formação inicial de professores deve abarcar a legislação em questão. Com essa preocupação, o livro busca contribuir com reflexões sobre os currículos de formação inicial de professores, sobretudo os de Pedagogia, que formam, nas mais diversas instituições brasileiras, um número elevado de professores que atuarão na educação básica. Convido o leitor a pensar na melhoria da qualidade do ensino a partir de depoimentos de futuros professores e egressos da Pedagogia sobre questões raciais e educação. Muitas pesquisas partem do ponto de vista dos professores que já atuam na educação básica e eu busco, nesta leitura, provocar reflexões a partir das falas daqueles que estão em reta final de formação, sendo, portanto, seu diferencial. Os relatos registrados a partir de conversas ajudam a pensar a formação com um viés de debate e de aprendizado, levando em conta que a Lei deve ser efetivamente implementada nas escolas.

Este livro é o resultado dos meus estudos de doutoramento iniciados em 2018 e finalizados em 2022, cujo objetivo geral foi contribuir para a construção de uma formação em serviço crítico-reflexiva, incluindo aspectos dos Novos Letramentos e dos Letramentos Críticos em práticas pedagógicas democráticas e inclusivas, também para o ensino de língua inglesa. A pesquisa em questão, de cunho qualitativo, contou com a participação de professores de inglês representantes das nove regionais da PBH que já participaram, em algum momento, de cursos de formação continuada do programa Improve Your English, atual "Falando com o Mundo". A fundamentação teórica da pesquisa baseou-se nos pressupostos dos Letramentos Críticos e do pensamento decolonial como alternativa para o ensino de inglês em um contexto global e local, em consonância com a definição de "glocal" proposta por Canagarajah (2005). Na contramão do pensamento eurocêntrico hegemônico, autores e pensadores como Pennycook (2005, 2007), Canagarajah (1999, 2005), Quijano (2005), Mignolo (2008) e Kumaravadivelu (2012) propõem alternativas para repensar a lógica do pensamento colonial dominante no Ocidente. Os resultados apontaram para uma prevalência de agências e fundações internacionais em cursos de formação continuada de professores de inglês da PBH, contribuindo parcialmente para um arrefecimento por parte do professorado no que tange a conexões com aspectos locais e regionais da comunidade escolar.

Eminent contributors look at the present and future of cosmopolitanism and its relationship to nationalism. Nationalism and the nation-state have recently come under siege, their political dominance gradually eroding under the strain of such forces as ethnic strife, religious fundamentalism, homogenizing global capitalism, and the unprecedented movements of people and populations across cultures, countries, even cyberspace. A resurgent cosmopolitanism has emerged as a viable and alternative political project. In Cosmopolitics, a renowned group of scholars and political theorists offers the first sustained examination of that project, its inclusive and often universalist claims, and its tangled and sometimes volatile relationship to nationalism.
