Held in October of 2001 in Dallas, Texas, the symposium set out to integrate the efforts of formulation chemists, regulators, and those in industry related to sprayer and nozzle manufacture on topics related to the delivery of crop protection agents (pesticides). Sixteen contributions are presented. After the invited paper on continuity and change in U.S. federal pesticide policy, the papers are organized into two sections, first treating formulation ingredients and design, and then discussing delivery strategies. The first deals with such topics as novel polymeric dispersants, clays as microbial carriers, and Alkyl Citrate Ester surfactants. The second explores such issues as bees as delivery agents, roles of surfactants in foliar application of systemic compounds, and related topics. Until the 1990s, it was generally accepted that medicines were first developed for adults and their use in children was investigated later, if at all. One of the main tasks of hospital pharmacies was the manufacturing of child-appropriate formulations in a more or less makeshift way. The first change came in 1997 with U.S. legislation that rewarded manufacturers to do voluntary pediatric research. Ten years later, the European Union passed legislation that required manufacturers to discuss all pediatric aspects, including formulations, with the regulatory authorities as a condition of starting the registration procedure. In consequence, manufacturers must now cover all age groups, including the youngest ones. So far, pediatric formulations were more a focus for academic researchers. Through the changed regulatory environment, there is now a sudden high commercial demand for age-appropriate formulations. This book begins by highlighting the anatomical, physiological and developmental differences between adults and children of different ages. It goes on to review the existing technologies and attempts to draw a roadmap to better, innovative formulations, in particular for oral administration. The regulatory, clinical, ethical and pharmaceutical framework is also addressed.

Formulation is a key step in the drug design process, where the active drug is combined with other substances that maximise the therapeutic potential, safety and stability of the final medicinal product. Modern formulation science deals with biologics as well as small molecules. Regulatory and quality demands, in addition to advances in processing technologies, result in growing challenges as well as possibilities for the field. Pharmaceutical Formulation provides an up to date source of information for all who wish to understand the principles and practice of formulation in the drug industry. The book provides an understanding of the links between formulation theory and the practicalities of processing in a commercial environment, giving researchers the knowledge to produce effective pharmaceutical products that can be approved and manufactured. The first chapters introduce readers to different dosage forms, including oral liquid products, topical products and solid dosage forms such as tablets and capsules. Subsequent chapters cover pharmaceutical coatings, controlled release drug delivery and dosage forms designed specifically for paediatric and geriatric patients. The final chapter provides an introduction to the vital role intellectual property plays in drug development. Covering modern processing methods and recent changes in the regulatory and quality demands of the industry, Pharmaceutical Formulation is an essential, up to date resource for students and researchers working in academia and in the pharmaceutical industry.

Formulation Technology written by Hans Mollet and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-21 with Science categories.

Many chemical substances or compounds - organic or inorganic, natural or synthetic - are not used in their pure form. In order for the active ingredient to be most effective or to obtain the ideal delivery form for the market, the actual synthesis and purification steps are followed by formulation to give end products that range from powders, agglomerates, and granules to suspensions, emulsions, microemulsions, microcapsules, instant preparations, liposomes, and tablets. Formulation combines colloid and surface chemistry with chemical process engineering; sometimes it consists of a simple mixing operation, sometimes it requires an entire series of rather complicated engineering procedures such as comminution, dispersion, emulsification, agglomeration or drying. This book covers basic physico-chemical theory as well as its applications in the chemical industry for the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, pigments and dyes, food, detergents, cosmetics and many other products; it also provides chemists and chemical engineers with the necessary practical tools for the understanding of the structure/ activity relationship.

Formulation In Psychology And Psychotherapy written by Lucy Johnstone and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Psychology categories.

Formulation is attracting an increasing amount of interest in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling. Drawing on psychological theory, it attempts to examine a client or family's problems in terms of how they arose and what may currently be holding these in place. It synthesises this information and explanatory ideas into 'working hypotheses', which are then used to suggest appropriate and effective ways of working to relieve the problems. It can also be described as the key way of relating theory to practice in clinical work. Formulation in Psychology and Psychotherapy places this growing interest in formulation in a clinical and historical context. It introduces the reader to the theory and practice of formulation through the discussion of two clients (one adult and one child focused problem), whose problems are formulated from the perspective of 5 different therapeutic traditions: systemic, psychodynamic, community, cognitive - behavioural and social constructionist/narrative. It looks at the growing trend for formulations that draw on two or more therapeutic models and includes two chapters dealing with integrative formulation. It offers some creative suggestions for how this can be carried out in a way that is theoretically coherent and clinically effective. The authors also explore the important issue of formulation as a collaborative activity, and consider the ethics of formulation. The final chapter takes a critical overview of the main research, controversies and debates in the area, and gives a guide for using, developing, and researching formulation in a way that maximises its strengths while being aware of its limitations. The book is unique in including newer therapeutic approaches such as narrative therapy and social inequalities; it critiques and takes forward recent work on integration, and provides a lively and challenging critical evaluation of the area as a whole. It guides readers through a complex field in a clear, accessible and engaging way. Both experienced and novice clinicians will be able to enhance their clinical skills and theoretical knowledge.
