Der Künstler Francesco Matarrese unternimmt in diesem Notizbuch eine Neulektüre von zwei Texten der Moderne: In einer »extremen Begegnung« stellt er Recentness of Sculpture (Neuerdings die Skulptur) des amerikanischen Kunstkritikers Clement Greenberg von 1967 einem Auszug aus Lotta contro il lavoro! (Kampf gegen die Arbeit!) des italienischen politischen Philosophen und wichtigen Theoretikers des Operaismus Mario Tronti aus dem Jahr 1965 gegenüber. Eine »Fernbegegnung«, so Matarrese, »an einem der höchsten Punkte, [...] der heute für eine Diskussion über Kunst und Politik vorstellbar ist.« Aus der Betrachtung und dem Vergleich von Greenbergs Modernismuskonzeption und der politischen, marxistischen Thesen Trontis entwickelt der Autor seine Überlegungen zu einer abstrakten oder Nicht-Kunst, die radikal außerhalb zu sein vermag. Neben einem Faksimile von Trontis Originalmanuskript enthält das Notizbuch dessen aktuellen Kommentar auf die von Matarrese an ihn gestellte Frage: »Kann man wirklich außerhalb sein?«. Francesco Matarrese (*1950) lebt in Bari und Rom. 1978 gab er im Telegramma di rifiuto seine Verweigerung künstlerischer Produktion bekannt (»a refusal of abstract labor in art«) und begann, einen unmöglichen Katalog von Nicht-Kunstwerken zu erstellen.

Bei Recherchen für seinen Beitrag zur dOCUMENTA (13) stieß der Künstler Clemens von Wedemeyer in der Berliner Akademie der Künste auf das mit handschriftlichen Notizen und Zeichnungen versehene Regiebuch des Regisseurs Eberhard Itzenplitz, auf dessen Basis das Drehbuch von Ulrike Meinhof Bambule. Fürsorge – Sorge für wen? verfilmt wurde. Die geplante Fernsehausstrahlung 1970 wurde gestrichen, da die Journalistin und spätere Mitgründerin der RAF zehn Tage zuvor in den terroristischen Untergrund abgetaucht war. Von Wedemeyers Interesse gilt dem Regiebuch als Filmmaterial, das Arbeitsumfeld, Produktionsprozesse und (Selbst-)Beschränkungen widerspiegelt und in diesem spezifischen Fall der Tatsache, dass es eine Art Zeitkapsel darstellt: Als der Film 24 Jahre später ausgestrahlt wurde, hatte sich die gesellschaftliche Landschaft fundamental gewandelt. Das Regiebuch schließt die zeitliche Lücke und ist Zeugnis der Diskussionen zwischen den Beteiligten. In einem Nachwort beleuchtet Bettina Röhl (*1962), Tochter von Ulrike Meinhof, die Motivation für die Heimkinderkampagnen als politisches Programm. Clemens von Wedemeyer (*1974) ist Künstler und lebt in Berlin. Bettina Röhl (*1962) lebt als Publizistin in Hamburg.

The first overview of the unique encounter between artists and the prominent Marxist current Workerism, also known as Operaismo During the 1960s and 1970s, Workerism and Autonomia were prominent Marxist currents. However, it is rarely acknowledged that these movements inspired many visual artists such as the members of Archizoom, Gordon Matta-Clark and Gianfranco Baruchello. This book focuses on the aesthetic and cultural discourse developed by three generations of militants (including Mario Tronti, Antonio Negri, Bifo and Silvia Federici), and how it was appropriated by artists, architects, graphic designers and architectural historians such as Manfredo Tafuri. Images of Classsignposts key moments of this dialogue, ranging from the drawings published on classe operaia to Potere Operaio’s exhibition in Paris, the Metropolitan Indians’ zines, a feminist art collective who adhered to the Wages for Housework Campaign, and the N group’s experiments with Gestalt theory. El artista Francesco Matarrese emprende una nueva lectura de dos textos de la Modernidad: en un “encuentro extremo” contrasta Recentness of Sculpture (La escultura últimamente”) (1967), del crítico de arte americano Clement Greenberg con un pasaje de Lotta contra il lavoro! (Lucha contra el trabajo!, (1965), de Mario Tronti, filósofo político italiano y destacado teórico del operaísmo. Un “encuentro distante”, según Matarrese, “sobre uno de los principales puntos [...] imaginables para el debate contemporáneo sobre arte y política”. A partir del análisis y comparación del concepto de modernidad de Greenberg con las teorías políticas marxistas de Tronti, el autor desarrolla sus reflexiones sobre un arte abstracto o no-arte capaz de estar radicalmente al margen. Además de un facsímil del manuscrito original de Tronti, el cuaderno de notas contiene un comentario sobre la pregunta que le planteó Matarrese: “Realmente, puedes estar al margen?”

This collection of various texts on Karl Marx and Mathematics is the revised and extended second edition of the Special Supplement to Karl Marx, Mathematical Manuscripts (1994; Calcutta: Viswakos) titled Marx and Mathematics. The sources of the texts included in the three parts of this collection and, some biographical information about their respective authors have been indicated at the end of each text. The emergence and development of the Ethnomathematics movement continue to change our understanding of the history of evolution of plural mathematics on planet earth since the Neolithic age. Rediscovery and study of some of the neglected source texts have further energized investigations on the subsequent history of mathematical cultures, including those on the histories of algebra and analysis in some of the ancient and medieval languages of Asia, like Sanskrit, Arabic and Malayalam. Consequently, it is now possible to indicate some of the larger gaps in the dominant understanding of history of mathematics not only in Marx’s time, but also at the time of editing Marx’s mathematical manuscripts in the twentieth century, and even today. Finally, the emergence and development of mathematical and statistical software packages are vigorously reshaping our ways of conceptualizing and doing mathematics towards an unknown future. It is time now for taking yet another look at all mathematical text from the past and that includes the mathematical manuscripts of Marx. These texts have been divided into three parts. Part one contains some topical texts related to the history of emergence, development, editing, publication and reception of the mathematical manuscripts of Karl Marx. Part two contains a selection of five articles reflecting some of the investigations inspired by these manuscripts in Russia, India and France. Part three contains five articles on plural mathematics before and after Karl Marx (1818-1883). The texts in this collection are followed by two appendices containing two bibliographies: one on Hegel and mathematics and, the other on mathematics and semiotics.
