Franz Curti (1854-1898) zählt zu den vielen zu Unrecht vergessenen Komponisten des 19. Jahrhunderts. Erst langsam wird sein Werk wieder zum Erklingen gebracht - vor allem in seinen beiden Heimatorten, dem Schweizerischen Rapperswil und der sächsischen Landeshauptstadt Dresden. Die erste Biographie über Curti verfasste der Komponist, Pianist und Musikschriftsteller Hans Jelmoli (1877-1936). Sie erschien 1900 im 88. Neujahrsblatt der Allgemeinen Musikgesellschaft in Zürich. Im 97. Neujahrsblatt wurde diese Biographie in aktualisierter Auflage erneut veröffentlicht. Ein im Besitz des Herausgebers befindliches Exemplar diente dieser Reprint-Ausgabe als Grundlage. Diese erste Biographie zeigt zwar einerseits schon die Distanz zum Zeitpunkt der Veröffentlichung bereits verstorbenen Franz Curti, ist allerdings durch die Befragung von Zeitzeugen noch sehr nahe an dem Musiker. Insofern ist diese auch eine wesentliche Quelle für die 2005 durch die Autoren Jean-Marie Curti und Gisela Dahl veröffentlichte Biographie. Da beide Veröffentlichungen aktuell nur sehr eingeschränkt verfügbar sind, soll dieses Büchlein einen Beitrag dazu leisten, Leben und Werk Franz Curtis einem größeren Kreis bekannt zu machen.
