'An exhilarating story of freedom and constraint, told with a confident and unwavering verve. This is a journey driven by boundless curiosity, and by the desire for connection - across borders, across languages, across time' MALACHY TALLACK When Esa Aldegheri and her husband left their home in Orkney, Esa didn't know that their eighteen-month motorbike adventure would take them through twenty international frontiers - between Europe and the Middle East, through Pakistan, China and India - many of which are now impassable. Charting a story of shrinking and expanding liberties and horizons, of motherhood, womanhood, xenophobia and changing geopolitical situations, Free to Go examines the challenges of navigating a world where many assume that women ride pillion, both on a motorbike and within relationships. Part around-the-world adventure, part-literary exploration of womanhood, Free to Go is about the journeys that shape and transform us.

Let S Get Free written by Paul Butler and has been published by The New Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-08 with Law categories.

Radical ideas for changing the justice system, rooted in the real-life experiences of those in overpoliced communities, from the acclaimed former federal prosecutor and author of Chokehold Paul Butler was an ambitious federal prosecutor, a Harvard Law grad who gave up his corporate law salary to fight the good fight—until one day he was arrested on the street and charged with a crime he didn't commit. In a book Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree calls “a must-read,” Butler looks at places where ordinary citizens meet the justice system—as jurors, witnesses, and in encounters with the police—and explores what “doing the right thing” means in a corrupt system. No matter how powerless those caught up in the web of the law may feel, there is a chance to regain agency, argues Butler. Through groundbreaking and sometimes controversial methods—jury nullification (voting “not guilty” in drug cases as a form of protest), just saying “no” when the police request your permission to search, and refusing to work inside the system as a snitch or a prosecutor—ordinary people can tip the system towards actual justice. Let’s Get Free is an evocative, compelling look at the steps we can collectively take to reform our broken system.

The story is told of a family that adopted a little boy from a far-away country. He had been raised in an atheist home. One night, his father, in rage and desperation, had killed his mother and siblings right before his eyes. He then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. The adopting family were Christians and wanted to be very careful about taking the little boy to church. They took him to a children’s class and, as they dropped him off with the teacher, they explained that he had no previous education about God. They asked the teacher to be careful not to embarrass him. In kindness, the teacher decided to talk about Jesus using pictures to help the children understand. As she held up the drawing of Jesus, she asked the class the question, “Who knows who this is?” The little boy, in broken English raised his hand and blurted out, “I know Him. He’s the man that was holding me when my father killed my family!”
