Dying To Self And Detachment written by James Kellenberger and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-29 with Philosophy categories.

Exploring the religious category of dying to self, this book aims to resolve contemporary issues that relate to detachment. Beginning with an examination of humility in its general notion and as a religious virtue that detachment presupposes, Kellenberger draws on a range of ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary sources that address the main characteristics of detachment, including the work of Meister Eckhart, St. Teresa, and Simone Weil, as well as writers as varied as Gregory of Nyssa, Rabi'a al-Adawiyya, Søren Kierkegaard, Andrew Newberg, John Hick and Keiji Nishitani. Kellenberger explores the key issues that arise for detachment, including the place of the individual's will in detachment, the relationship of detachment to desire, to attachment to persons, and to self-love and self-respect, and issues of contemporary secular detachment such as inducement via chemicals. This book heeds the relevance of the religious virtue of detachment for those living in the twenty-first century.

It is beyond debate that the world is troubled with numerous problems. We live in a time of political, economic and social uncertainty. While all of us earnestly hope that these problems will be worked out, we all differ widely in our views of the best route to get to these solutions. Perhaps the most basic issue in seeking solutions to our problems is the identification of the cause or source of these problems. As the world is an interconnected system where we all have some impact on the whole, it is logical to assume that the most basic issues of the world's problems lie within each of us individually. This book takes this approach. If we are to ever hope to move toward solutions to the world situation we must begin with each of our own individual situations. This is not a look at our physical situation but with our psychological and spiritual situation. The only way we can ever hope to build a better world is to build better people. The making of better people begins with a proper constitution of our "self" or the person we truly are. In the end, there are only two versions of our self that we can elect to live in--the independent self or the individual self. One of these versions leads to a life of bondage and the other leads to a healthy life of positive impact. This impact touches both our own life and the condition of all those we have contact with.

Holy Is A Four Letter Word written by Charles C. Lake and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-17 with Religion categories.

Holy Is a Four-Letter Word responds to the need for an accessible and simple articulation of the holy life, and what it means for the collective church as well as for individual believers. This goal is accomplished by taking the fundamental tenets of holiness doctrine and shaping them around twelve four-letter words: (1) Holy, (2) Self, (3) Full, (4) Pure, (5) Will, (6) Mind, (7) Body, (8) Love, (9) Rest, (10) Life, (11) Sent, and (12) Call. Each chapter deals with holy living according to scripture as it pertains to each four-letter word. Setting the concept of holiness against the backdrop of modern (and often profane) media culture accomplishes two objectives: (1) it reveals the relevance and urgency of holy living amongst a super-charged, secular media culture, and (2) defining holy living, first and foremost, by what it is not thereby accentuating "holy" as being set a part for the purposes of God.

If you remove idols from your heart, the Holy Spirit will fill you. If you leave the idols there, the Holy Spirit will also leave you alone. What will you do with the idols in your heart? Do you know what took away the love that you had for Jesus? It could be a more dangerous situation not to know what took away your first love for Him. If you do not know, how then will you be restored? If you know what stood between the Lord and you, put it away immediately. Do not relent until the barrier or barriers are removed. God follows a specific pattern to prepare people for service. First, the blood of the Lamb and then the anointing of the Holy Spirit. In preparation for Pentecost, firstly you need cleansing by the blood, then the anointing of the Holy Spirit can come. The cleansing power of the blood must cleanse a life before the Holy Spirit falls on that life. Where the blood has cleansed, the Spirit may fall! What qualifies a person for the anointing of the Holy Spirit is the cleansing by the blood of the Lamb. Total filling requires total cleansing! It is self-seduction to expose and repent of some sins but leave others, while expecting to be totally filled. Until the blood has cleansed, the oil cannot come. We repeat, the Holy Spirit can only fall upon the person who has been cleansed by the blood.
