Die Auswahl an Content-Management-Systemen ist breit gefächert. Vorerhebungen zu dieser Untersuchung ergaben eine Zahl von über 1200 Content-Management-System- Lösungen, welche allein im Europäischen Raum zur Verfügung stehen. Dass für den Einsatz resp. die Auswahl von Content-Management-Systemen im Bereich des Webpublishing bisher keine verbindlichen Richtlinien existieren, macht die Auswahl einer sinnvollen Lösung nicht leichter. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass selbst die Hersteller der Content-Management-Systeme den Auswahlprozess unnötig verkomplizieren. Denn aufgrund der hart umkämpften Marktsituation im Bereich des Webpublishing werden oft reine Differenzierungsstrategien zur weiteren, besseren Produktabgrenzung verfolgt. Es ist daher nicht verwunderlich, dass Entscheidungsträger unterschiedlicher Unternehmensgrössen anhand der herrschenden Vielfalt und Komplexität bei Entscheidungen schlichtweg überfordert sind, welches Content-Management-System am ehesten ihren Bedürfnissen entspricht. Ziel der hier vorliegenden Untersuchung ist es, zunächst einen allgemein gültigen Anforderungskatalog für die Auswahl und Bewertung von Content-Management-Systemen herzuleiten. Die Gewichtung der einzelnen Kriterien in Form von MUSS und KANN wird über eine durchgeführte Online-Umfrage ermöglicht.
