To cope with the problems of today's world, we need to enter into a dialogue regardless of political, religious and philosophical beliefs - a transversal dialogue as Pope Francis called for in the private audience, he gave to Alexis Tsipras, Walter Baier and Franz Kronreif in September 2014. This conversation resulted in the DIALOP initiative - a transversal dialogue between Socialists and Christians. Since then, a network of universities and NGOs have been exploring paths of what they call a transversal social ethics. In this book authors from Austria, Belgium, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and the Vatican air their views on topics like social equality, European Unity, democracy, the commons and ecology.

How can Europe ensure humane treatment and meet its shared responsibility for the causes of flight? The power struggles in Syria and in Iraq have expanded into the largest war currently being waged. An element of the conflict is the terrorism of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, a group which also evolved as a response to efforts by the West to exert hegemonial influence in the region. The Peace Report is the joint yearbook of the German Institutes of Peace and Conflict Research. Researchers from various disciplines investigate the realities of conflicts in various countries around the world. Their analyses are the basis for the Editors' Statement, which summarizes and assesses these results and formulates policy recommendations for peace and security policy in Germany and Europe. The focus of this report include: the refugee topic dividing European and German society; solidarity and a high degree of willingness to help counterbalanced by rising xenophobia and nationalist isolation; and the question of whether the area of freedom, security, and justice is only there in good times and only for EU citizens? Also investigated are the shortcomings of European immigration policy and the threats to the European peace project; repression and terror; and state failure and lack of social perspectives. Against the backdrop of combating the financial and economic crisis in the European Union for the past decade, this volume strives to explore the manifold impacts the prevailing crisis management has on the further alignment of European Integration. The efforts targeted at overcoming the financial and economic crisis evoked far-reaching consequences on the societal, economic, and political level within European member states, which in turn challenge the institutional alignment, democratic legitimacy and economic coherence of the European Union. Taking into account current developments in the EU, the contributions presented in this volume focus on the ‘fault lines’ in the integration process, i.e. questions of policy coherence, democratic accountability, financialization, militarization, migration, gendered social and economic asymmetries as well as the rise of populist and extreme right-wing parties. The volume focuses on how these different developments come together by relating aspects of transdisciplinary research to uncover the fault lines in the European integration project in the subsequent chapters.

International Theory And German Foreign Policy written by Jakub Eberle and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-23 with Political Science categories.

The central aim of this book is to foster connections between scholarly discussions of German foreign policy and broader theoretical debates in International Relations and beyond. While there has been a lively discussion about ‘new German foreign policy’, this book argues that it has not engaged substantially with international and foreign policy theory, especially with respect to its more recent developments. Reviewing the recent literature on German foreign policy, this book posits that the most discussed works are still largely provided by the ‘Altmeister’ (Maull, Szabo, Bulmer and Paterson) who were already dominating the field a quarter of a century ago. While there is a general decline in the academic study of German foreign policy, the chapters in this edited volume show that a range of novel, theoretically sophisticated but often disconnected scholarship has appeared on the margins. This book contributes to this emerging work by providing conceptual interrogations, which question the existing research and provide theoretically-grounded alternatives; initiating critical discussions and evaluations of the nature of Germany’s actorness and the environment in which it operates and proposing applications of less familiar perspectives on German foreign policy. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of German Politics.
