In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird untersucht, welches Armutsverständnis in katholischen Predigten und Hirtenbriefen dieser Zeit vorherrscht und welche Konzepte von Armenfürsorge damit verbunden sind. Im Hintergrund der Studie steht die Frage, wie die diskursive Auseinandersetzung um die Themenfelder Armut und Armenfürsorge dazu beitrug, eine katholische Identität zu konstruieren.
