Some people can get over anything. Doctors diagnose them with a rare form of cancer and they recover. They are viciously attacked and blinded yet pull through to start a successful business improving other people's lives. They survive injury in the military, and campaign across the country to raise awareness about the emotional difficulties linked to combat service. These people bounce back from horrendous trauma that would emotionally and physically cripple most people. They flourish with renewed resolve to face any problem with grace and ease. Knowing how people in challenging circumstances such as these transition from ordinary to extraordinary gives us the knowledge to transform our own lives without first suffering trauma. Be Extraordinary reveals a life-changing formula that will lead us on the path to being extraordinary even when we encounter setbacks along the way. Jennifer Wild has discovered that overcoming adversity and becoming extraordinary tap the same factor. People who flourish with or without trauma as their catalyst naturally draw on seven key processes - the unwavering belief in recovering against all odds, the conviction to reach one's goals, the courage to focus on the future rather than the past, and the invaluable, necessary conscious and continuous process of updating out-dated memories and self-concepts. These factors drive people to overcome adversity. They drive people to become extraordinary. Some people have them. Some people don't. This book is about what those factors are, how to get them and why they work. Linking science to achievable transformation, Dr Wild reveals the seven processes and gives inspiring real-life examples of how ordinary people have used them to come through astonishing adversity. Offering an accessible, practical no-nonsense plan of how to overcome everyday setbacks, this is the essential guide if you want to Be Extraordinary.

Krutch’s trenchant observations about life prospering in the hostile environment of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert turn to weighty questions about humanity and the precariousness of our existence, putting lie to Western denials of mind in the “lower” forms of life: “Let us not say that this animal or even this plant has ‘become adapted’ to desert conditions. Let us say rather that they have all shown courage and ingenuity in making the best of the world as they found it. And let us remember that if to use such terms in connection with them is a fallacy then it can only be somewhat less a fallacy to use the same terms in connection with ourselves.”

This book explores the aesthetics of the objects and environments we encounter in daily life. Thomas Leddy stresses the close relationship between everyday aesthetics and the aesthetics of art, but places special emphasis on neglected aesthetic terms such as ‘neat,’ ‘messy,’ ‘pretty,’ ‘lovely,’ ‘cute,’ and ‘pleasant.’ The author advances a general theory of aesthetic experience that can account for our appreciation of art, nature, and the everyday.

Artificial Nutrition And Hydration And The Permanently Unconscious Patient written by Ronald P. Hamel and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-09-13 with Medical categories.
During the past few decades, high-profile cases like that of Terry Schiavo have fueled the public debate over forgoing or withdrawing artificial nutrition and hydration from patients in a persistent vegetative state (PVS). These cases, whether involving adults or young children, have forced many to begin thinking in a measured and careful way about the moral legitimacy of allowing patients to die. Can families forgo or withdraw artificial hydration and nutrition from their loved ones when no hope of recovery seems possible? Many Catholics know that Catholic moral theology has formulated a well-developed and well-reasoned position on this and other end-of-life issues, one that distinguishes between "ordinary" and "extraordinary" treatment. But recent events have caused uncertainty and confusion and even acrimony among the faithful. In his 2004 allocution, Pope John Paul II proposed that artificial nutrition and hydration is a form of basic care, thus suggesting that the provision of such care to patients neurologically incapable of feeding themselves should be considered a moral obligation. The pope's address, which seemed to have offered a new development to decades of Catholic health care ethics, sparked a contentious debate among the faithful over how best to treat permanently unconscious patients within the tenets of Catholic morality. In this comprehensive and balanced volume, Ronald Hamel and James Walter present twenty-one essays and articles, contributed by physicians, clergy, theologians, and ethicists, to reflect the spectrum of perspectives on the issues that define the Catholic debate. Organized into six parts, each with its own introduction, the essays offer clinical information on PVS and feeding tubes; discussions on the Catholic moral tradition and how it might be changing; ecclesiastical and pastoral statements on forgoing or withdrawing nutrition and hydration; theological and ethical analyses on the issue; commentary on Pope John Paul II's 2004 allocution; and the theological commentary, court decisions, and public policy resulting from the Clarence Herbert and Claire Conroy legal cases. A valuable resource for students and scholars, this teachable volume invites theological dialogue and ethical discussion on one of the most contested issues in the church today.

The Ends Of Human Life written by Ezekiel J. Emanuel and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Medical categories.
Ezekiel Emanuel, trained as both a physician and a political theorist, rejects the claim that most of today's dilemmas of medical ethics are created by advances in medical technology. He maintains that the seemingly endless debates are the inevitable consequence of liberal political values. He proposes an alternative ideology, a liberal communitarianism that imagines a federation of political communities dedicated to democratic deliberations to guide the formulation of laws and policies.
