Excerpt from From Immigrant to Inventor "From Immigrant to Inventor" has met with a reception which is certainly very gratifying. Evidently it conveyed a message which was timely. Hundreds of letters which I have received since the book was published, eighteen months ago, convince me that the message was particularly welcome to the youth of this country. It was intended for them, and I am certainly happy in the knowledge that it found in their hearts an enthusiastic response. Teachers of science and of religion have also assured me that they, too, found in the book a welcome message, and urged that a less expensive edition of it be published, so as to reach a much wider circle of readers. This edition is a response to these earnest requests. I hope that the new readers of this less expensive edition will find in it just as welcome a message as the readers of the older editions did. Excerpt from Men of Achievement: Inventors This book, dealing with our great inventors, their origins, hopes, aims, principles, disappoint ments, trials, and triumphs, their daily life and personal character, presents just enough con cerning their inventions to make the story intelligible. The history is often a painful one. When poor Goodyear, the inventor of vulcan ized rubber, was one day asked what he wanted to make of his boys, he is said to have replied: Make them anything but inventors; mankind has nothing but cuffs and kicks for those who try to do it a service. The Story Of My First Invention Classic Reprint written by Henry Charles Thomson and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-30 with Business & Economics categories.

Excerpt from The Story of My First Invention My first invention was not one of those studiously thought out ideas, where, knowing the necessity of improvement, as the Patent Law puts it, of a new and useful art, machine, manufacture, the inventor works on it, and by a slow, step-by-step process gradually evolves a means of accomplishment, but was one that came to me instantly. When I was engaged in manufacturing, that was before I be came an attorney, I generally had to work long and faithfully on an idea before the complete conception and final construction was evolved in my mind. Notwithstanding the fact that I have had granted me by the United States and Foreign Patent Offices, twenty-seven patents. This first invention makes a story which I hope the reader will find not only interesting, but instructive. It is not an unusual story from the commercial side, but is somewhat out of the ordinary from the number of legal difficulties encountered.
