The human imagination manifests in countless different forms. We imagine the possible and the impossible. How do we do this so effortlessly? Why did the capacity for imagination evolve and manifest with undeniably manifold complexity uniquely in human beings? This handbook reflects on such questions by collecting perspectives on imagination from leading experts. It showcases a rich and detailed analysis on how the imagination is understood across several disciplines of study, including anthropology, archaeology, medicine, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and the arts. An integrated theoretical-empirical-applied picture of the field is presented, which stands to inform researchers, students, and practitioners about the issues of relevance across the board when considering the imagination. With each chapter, the nature of human imagination is examined - what it entails, how it evolved, and why it singularly defines us as a species.

This book explores the structure and function of memory and imagination, as well as the relation and interaction between the two states. It is the first book to offer an integrative approach to these two emerging areas of philosophical research. The essays in this volume deal with a variety of forms of imagining and remembering. The contributors come from a range of methodological backgrounds: empirically minded philosophers, analytic philosophers engaging mainly in conceptual analysis, and philosophers informed by the phenomenological tradition. Part 1 consists of novel contributions to ontological issues regarding the nature of memory and imagination and their respective structural features. Part 2 focuses on questions of justification and perspective regarding both states. The chapters in Part 3 discuss issues regarding memory and imagination as skills or abilities. Finally, Part 4 focuses on the relation between memory, imagination, and emotion. Philosophical Perspectives on Memory and Imagination will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working in philosophy of memory, philosophy of imagination, philosophy of mind, and epistemology.

This Thing Called Reason written by Benjamin K. Akih and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-06 with Philosophy categories.
This book offers a conceptual analysis of reason, proposing a plausible theory to resolve persistent vagueness in the historical use of the concept. The proposed theory leads to the view that reason is fundamentally subjective and dependent on non-inferential matters of faith. Despite the inherent subjectivity, we can arrive at a consensus in reasoning exercises because we all participate in a universal minimum religion that grounds all reasoning. True atheism is therefore impossible. This analysis bears on debates about the relation between faith and reason as well as the relation between ethics based on reason and ethics based on sentiments. The book further shows that this new and original view of religiously constrained reason ought to equally inform our thinking about applied ethics, such as politics, law, and economics.

The Power Of Imagination written by Xavier Pavie and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-11 with Philosophy categories.
This book provides an overview of imagination and its role for survival in a complex, high-intensity environment. More than this, this book aims, ambitiously, to inspire imagination. It establishes that imagination is neither abstract nor frivolous, but a technique, a skill, and a discipline that one must embrace to facilitate the transformation of both society and oneself. Whether facing contemporary challenges like climate change, social and political crises, or grappling with the complexities posed by artificial intelligence, machine learning, or transhumanism, imagination seems to be what is lacking in order both to endure and to build. Often reduced to the realm of artists, imagination is a unique value added by humankind, one that can envision a way of creating new worlds. In this book, the imagination becomes a spiritual exercise aimed at rethinking our ways of life in order to establish both a new construction of oneself and society. Researchers and general readers alike will find much in this call to imagine how other worlds might be possible.
