'A delightful historical saga which is so beautifully woven together that from the very start I was enchanted' Jaffa Reads Too From the award-winning author of The Apothecary's Daughter comes a beautifully evocative, family drama, perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Lucinda Riley and Elizabeth Jane Howard's Cazalet Chronicles. 1891. Spindrift House, Cornwall. Talented painter Edith Fairchild is poised to begin a life of newlywed bliss and artistic creation in the inspiring setting of Spindrift House, freshly inherited by her charming husband, Benedict, and overlooking the stunning harbour of Port Isaac. But when her honeymoon turns sour, her dreams are all but dashed and after a moment of madness and desire she finds herself pregnant with another man's child. Edith swears never to tell her secret and devotes herself to her art. Joined at Spindrift House by her friends - Clarissa, Dora and the secret father of her child, Pascal - together they turn the house into a budding artists' community. But despite their dreams of an idyllic way of life creating beauty by the sea, it becomes clear that all is not perfect within their tight-knit community, and that the weight of their secrets could threaten to tear apart their paradise forever... Why do readers love Charlotte Betts? 'This book was a pleasure to read, from beginning to end. A story in which to lose yourself, and become part of the community... Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder with cardinal motor signs of resting tremor, bradykinesia and lead-pipe rigidity. In addition, many patients display non-motor symptoms, including a diminished sensation of smell, gastrointestinal problems, various disorders of sleep and some cognitive impairment. These clinical features - particularly the motor signs - manifest after a progressive death of many dopaminergic neurones in the brain. Although currently available, conventional therapies can reduce the signs of the disease, the progression of this neuronal death has proved difficult to slow or stop, and the condition is relentlessly progressive. Hence, there is a real need to develop a treatment that is neuroprotective, one that slows the pathology of the disease effectively. At present, there are several neuroprotective therapies in the experimental pipeline, but these are for the patients of tomorrow. This book focuses on two therapies that are readily available for the patients of today. They involve the use of exercise and light (i.e. photobiomodulation, the use of red to infrared light therapy (λ=600-1070nm) on body tissues). The two therapies are tied together in several ways. First, in animal models of Parkinson's disease, they each have been shown to offer the key feature of neuroprotection, stimulating a series of built-in protective mechanisms within the neurones, that helps their survival, to self-protect and/or self-repair. There are also some promising indications of neuroprotection and many beneficial outcomes in parkinsonian patients. Further, both exercise and light therapies are similar in that they are non-invasive and safe to use, with no known adverse side-effects, making their combination with the conventional therapies, such as dopamine replacement drug therapy and deep brain stimulation, all the more feasible. Given the heterogeneity of Parkinson's disease in humans, tackling the condition from a range of different angles - with a number of different therapies - would only serve to enhance the positive outcomes. This book considers the use of exercise and light therapies, proposing that they have the potential to make a powerful "dynamic duo", offering a most effective neuroprotective treatment option to patients.

Walking at the Speed of Light is a perceptive offering of memoir and reflections that can be taken one at a time and provide insight and healing for all kinds of darkness. Although many books have addressed grief and depression related to Christian faith, a book that gives readers a Christian perspective on these subjects through forward thinking including organ donation and positive life building offers a unique opportunity. Walking at the Speed of Light begins with the death of Cheryl J. Heser’s thirty-three-year-old son, Joshua, the grief experiences that followed, and the organ donation that affected the lives of over 100 people. Cheryl then provides chapters related to the Light of the World, sharing insight and nurturing for grief and depression as well as an enthusiastic embracing of all aspects of the enlightened Christian faith journey.

Ask yourself what impact God has had in your life and what impact you have had on the lives of those around you. Who, in all honesty, would you trade places with? In my life, I have witnessed two of my brothers rendered quadriplegic, the death of my brother, Stephen, and lived in the memory of my brother, David, who passed before I was born. Two sisters diagnosed with breast cancer, the passing of my father and a brother-in-law.
