A New History of Iberian Feminisms is both a chronological history and an analytical discussion of feminist thought in the Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal, and the territories of Spain - the Basque Provinces, Catalonia, and Galicia - from the eighteenth century to the present day. The Iberian Peninsula encompasses a dynamic and fraught history of feminism that had to contend with entrenched tradition and a dominant Catholic Church. Editors Silvia Bermúdez and Roberta Johnson and their contributors reveal the long and historical struggles of women living within various parts of the Iberian Peninsula to achieve full citizenship. A New History of Iberian Feminisms comprises a great deal of new scholarship, including nineteenth-century essays written by women on the topic of equality. By addressing these lost texts of feminist thought, Bermúdez, Johnson, and their contributors reveal that female equality, considered a dormant topic in the early nineteenth century, was very much part of the political conversation, and helped to launch the new feminist wave in the second half of the century.

Bajo la dirección de un grupo de profesoras de Universidad y destacadas historiadoras de género, esta enciclopedia biográfica recoge las trayectorias vitales de más de doscientas cincuenta mujeres españolas que en distintos momentos de nuestro pasado y por diversos motivos, han realizado una contribución a nuestra Historia. La obra tiene una estructura cronológica cuatripartita: historia antigua, medieval, moderna, y contemporánea, siendo esta última la que recoge un mayor número de biografías. Cada una de las épocas históricas va precedida por una introducción a cargo de especialistas en la materia: Cándida Martínez realiza la parte de historia antigua; Reyna Pastor la época medieval; María José de la Pascua la historia moderna, y Susana Tavera la época contemporánea. La contribución de esta enciclopedia radica en recuperar del olvido y/o la tergiversación histórica a un grupo de mujeres que nos ayudan a tener una visión de los acontecimientos históricos más completa. Lo cierto es que sin ser una obra exhaustiva, como ya señalan las autoras en la Introducción, su aportación es importante ya que su publicación viene a cubrir un vacío en la materia al recoger no tanto a mujeres "célebres", ya se han publicado algunos libros al respecto, como "visibles", yendo desde escritoras, actrices, milicianas, maestras, a políticas, reinas, beatas, entre otras. Al valor intrínseco de las biografías se suma el valor de los Apéndices que incluye al final: una selección de bibliografía general de cada época histórica, una bibliografía específica sobre las mujeres biografiadas, un índice temático por épocas; un índice cronológico por épocas, y un índice Onomástico. Todo ello contribuye a que este libro además de ofrecer un interesante recorrido histórico biográfico, sea como toda buena obra de referencia que se precie, una herramienta de consulta rápida y eficaz.
