One of the fire service's most well-known and respected leaders reveals principles and events that have shaped his and other chief's careers and leadership values that no "cookie-cutter" leadership or management book can provide. The real-world experiences and lessons that are vividly detailed in the book provide a roadmap for any aspiring firefighter wishing to be promoted, a company or chief officer looking to go to the next level, or a fire chief who wishes to further develop their leadership skills. Fully Involved Leadership, written by Chief Gary Ludwig addresses the tenets of leading firefighters at all ranks and levels, and provides a blueprint for not only motivating firefighters but inspiring them; not showing them how much you know, but how much you care; that leadership is not a position or title - it is an action and examples; reminding you that rank does not equate to leadership, the inverted table of organization, and much more! Fully Involved Leadership is filled with powerful leadership topics and at its core addresses the values of trust; the two key qualities needed to be a fire service leader - character and competence; how to keep your emotions in check by using I before E - intelligence before emotions; how to keep from making a wrong decision; why it is important to show honor to your firefighters, plus a whole lot more! Chief Ludwig offers warm and engaging stories of not only his experiences but other chief officers and how they learned from their mistakes when it comes to leadership. Chief Ludwig provides insights and hard lessons learned that makes you reflect upon the question, "Who would you follow if your life depended upon it?

Understanding Leadership written by Robert M McManus and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-10 with Business & Economics categories.

Lao Tzu, Marx, the Buddha, Ibsen, Machiavelli — these are just a few of the world’s great thinkers who have weighed in on the subject of leadership over the centuries. Yet, the contemporary student of leadership often overlooks many of these names in favour of more recent theorists hailing from the social sciences. Understanding Leadership: An Arts and Humanities Perspective takes a different angle, employing the works of the great philosophers, authors and artists found in world civilization and presenting an arts and humanities perspective on the study of leadership. The authors build their conceptual framework using The Five Components of Leadership Model, which recognizes the leader, the followers, the goal, the environmental context, and the cultural values and norms that make up the leadership process. Supporting the text are a wealth of case studies which reflect on works such as Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem, Eugène Delacroix’s painting Liberty Leading the People, Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times, Athol Fugard’s play "Master Harold" . . . and the Boys, Lao Tzu’s poetic work Tao Te Ching, and Antonín Dvořák’s New World Symphony. The authors also introduce studies from various world cultures to particularly illustrate the role cultural values and norms play in leadership. This illuminating framework promotes the multidimensional thinking that is necessary for understanding and problem solving in a complex world. Understanding Leadership: An Arts and Humanities Perspective will be a valuable textbook for both undergraduate and postgraduate leadership students, while leadership professionals will also appreciate the book’s unique liberal arts and cultural approach.

Extreme Leadership written by Charles Patton and has been published by Charles D. Patton this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-26 with Business & Economics categories.

Leadership is a curious topic. It is most noted in its absence and most measured by its need. Leadership requires opportunity. Leadership is driven by the situation; what worked in one situation may be disastrous in another. It requires skills to be able to direct the challenge at hand. Leadership is both an art and a science. It is theoretical and applied, cultural and contextual. Most importantly, leadership is about accomplishment and results. Let's face it; talking about leadership is tough and, in many ways, counter-intuitive. Many people want to be leaders and some people prefer to follow a leader; but followers want to follow not just any leader, they want to follow a great leader. Business leadership textbooks often focus on the process and theory of leadership. Not what it is but what it looks like or what it has accomplished. Terms like "neo-charismatic" and "non-hierarchical cross-culture participator" are used. Pictures are drawn showing pyramids and "leadership process flows" with colored boxes containing "value-risk qualifiers." I have even read in textbooks that leadership is a dated concept, and today, it is the social environment and individual "zones of comfort" that produce accomplishments. Mumbo-jumbo! I believe if you want to have the things that great people have, you have to do the things great people do. The single most identifiable characteristic of successful people is that they are successful leaders. This is why Mr. Patton developed the term Extreme Leadership for this book and why the book focuses more on extreme examples than process flows and models. Charles' writing style is straight-ahead, and his content lays it out as it is. This book is designed as a supplement to graduate-level leadership courses. However, it is also very readable and interesting, and applicable to all aspects of life. This book sends the important message that It is okay to lead; it is okay to be a leader. It is also okay to follow. And that anyone who wants to lead can learn to lead. Hopefully, after reading this book and thinking about the case studies, you will have a rounded view of leadership, start to see when opportunities are presented, and be able to leverage them for your own leadership successes.
