Asimov in cele sapte volume ale Fundatiei m-a facut sa ma intreb incotro merge omenirea.“ Interviu acordat revistei Cles. „In 1978 dupa bacalaureat am inceput sa scriu Furnicile (urmând un scenariu de sapte pagini pentru benzi desenate). Dupa o versiune destul de naiva in care furnicile traiau intr-o folie de aluminiu si in care regina avea proiecte sa reformeze mentalitatea furniceasca mi-am dat seama de posibilitatile incredibile ale acestui subiect bizar daca ma refeream la comportament real al furnicilor adevarate. Cu cât este mai adevarat cu atât exista mai multa magie. Atunci am decis sa scriu o carte groasa. Peste 200 de pagini poate.
