Galia is a young girl from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, who likes to ride her bike, dance, and spend time with her father, Grald, who has muscular dystrophy and has been in a wheelchair since he was a young boy. Despite his disability, Grald received a master's degree from Harvard University, served as President Michel Martelly's Secretary of State with the disability portfolio, and enjoys many of the same activities with his daughter as other dads. During his five years in public office, Secretary Grald Oriol Jr. recognized his country's critical shortage of children's literature, particularly related to disability, and encouraged his friend and adviser James English to create a children's book for Haiti, which has an estimated one million persons with disabilities, a number that increased significantly following the 2010 earthquake. Galia's Dad Is in a Wheelchair aims to counter negative stereotypes and stigmas surrounding disability and is believed to be the only children's book on the subject in Haiti available in Creole, French, and English. The book's positive messages, which promote disability awareness and close parent-child relations, are universal and extend to general readers beyond the small Caribbean island nation. Teddy Keser Mombrun, a political cartoonist for Haiti's largest newspaper, Le Nouvelliste, used Haiti's unique color palette and landscapes to create illustrations for the book.

This book, part of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine textbook series, provides detailed up-to-date information on the physical, cognitive, and psychological impairments that are frequently present following a stay in an intensive care unit and examines in depth the available preventive and therapeutic strategies, including adapted rehabilitation programs. Beyond acquainting readers with the multiple facets of post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), the book aims to promote the effective follow-up of patients, thereby enhancing their ability to work and their functional autonomy, and to identify risk factors for the development of PICS as a stimulus to beneficial organizational changes in intensive care departments. The background to the book is the realization by healthcare providers that the quality of life of patients who have required a stay in an intensive care unit can be severely impaired or even become unacceptable. All too often, the diverse sequelae are overlooked by specialists of other disciplines. Moreover, families and caregivers are also at high risk of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine has developed the Lessons from the ICU series with the vision of providing focused and state-of-the-art overviews of central topics in Intensive Care and optimal resources for clinicians working in Intensive Care. This book, written by renowned experts in the field, will facilitate the transmission of key knowledge with significant clinical and financial benefits.

In 1966, the Gurindji people working on Wave Hill Station in the Northern Territory did something radical: they went on strike. They wanted equal wages--and land rights. Author Frank Hardy happened to be there. In The Unlucky Australians he tells the story of this walk-off, one that resulted in a successful land rights claim--a term Hardy has been credited for inventing in this important novel, first published in 1968.In an article in Overland in 2007 on Les Murray, Frank Hardy and Australian Nationalism, Nathan Hollier points out: 'Partly because of books like The Unlucky Australians, many Australians do not feel as comfortable or at ease with the land as they had been encouraged to feel by an eager generation of nationalist historians, social commentators, political and religious leaders, teachers and artists.'Frank Hardy (1917-1994) was a journalist, novelist and scriptwriter. His books include Power without Glory (1950), the satire Outcasts of Foolgarah (1971), also in the Untapped Collection, and The Dead Are Many (1975).
