Souija and Cash, Mr. Valentino’s two generals, could be the most powerful young Black gangstas the dirty South has ever known. But their different outlooks on how the game should be played could very well prevent them from ever achieving such a legendary status. Driven by greed and the lust for power, Tellis Lovett, aka Cash, was determined to be the man and rule the streets with an iron fist by any means necessary. His comrade, James Weaver, aka Souija, a more compassionate and caring brother, wanted nothing more than to give back to the communities what he and the Inc. were taking from them. But the only thing standing between them and their dream was each other. Will the two cohorts set aside their differences and take their game to the next level? Or will they allow the differences between them to bring about the fall of the Bay Area’s biggest drug empire, Gangsta Inc.

Fictions Inc written by Ralph Clare and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-11 with Literary Criticism categories.

Fictions Inc. explores how depictions of the corporation in American literature, film, and popular culture have changed over time. Beginning with perhaps the most famous depiction of a corporation—Frank Norris’s The Octopus—Ralph Clare traces this figure as it shifts from monster to man, from force to “individual,” and from American industry to multinational “Other.” Clare examines a variety of texts that span the second half of the twentieth century and beyond, including novels by Thomas Pynchon, William Gaddis, Don DeLillo, Richard Powers, and Joshua Ferris; films such as Network, Ghostbusters, Gung Ho, Office Space, and Michael Clayton; and assorted artifacts of contemporary media such as television’s The Office and the comic strips Life Is Hell and Dilbert. Paying particular attention to the rise of neoliberalism, the emergence of biopolitics, and the legal status of “corporate bodies,” Fictions Inc. shows that representations of corporations have come to serve, whether directly or indirectly, as symbols for larger economic concerns often too vast or complex to comprehend. Whether demonized or lionized, the corporation embodies American anxieties about these current conditions and ongoing fears about the viability of a capitalist system.

Many black strategies of daily resistance have been obscured--until now. Race rebels, argues Kelley, have created strategies of resistance, movements, and entire subcultures. Here, for the first time, everyday race rebels are given the historiographical attention they deserve, from the Jim Crow era to the present.

Despite its extraordinary popularity and worldwide influence, the world of rap and hip hop is under constant attack. Impressions and interpretations of its meaning and power are perpetually being challenged. Somewhere someone is bemoaning the negative impact of rap music on contemporary culture. In In the Heart of the Beat: The Poetry of Rap, bestselling author and scholar Alexs Pate argues for a fresh understanding of rap as an example of powerful and effective poetry, rather than a negative cultural phenomenon. Pate articulates a way of "reading" rap that makes visible both its contemporary and historical literary values. He encourages the reader to step beyond the dominance of the beat and the raw language and come to an appreciation of rap's literary and poetic dimensions. What emerges is a vision of rap as an exemplary form of literary expression, rather than a profane and trendy musical genre. Pate focuses on works by several well-known artists to reveal in rap music, despite its penchant for vulgarity, a power and beauty that is the heart of great literature.

Shanduke McPhatter also known as Trife Gangsta is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Gangstas Making Astronomical Community Changes Inc. (G.-M.A.C.C.). This change agent has gained worldwide recognition for his admirable work as an anti-gun violence advocate and community leader/organizer. Recognized as a contributor to safer communities in New York City by People Magazine, McPhatter's organization has been credited with creating a 30 percent drop in shooting incidents from 2012 to 2017 in the precinct where it operates. From 2017 to 2018, that number dropped to a 65% decrease. Not only has G.-M.A.C.C. proven to decrease crime, but it is also credited with providing mental-health counseling, legal aid assistance, and job readiness training to several hundred community members in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. With the organization's success, in 2019 G.-M.A.C.C. has expanded its office to the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. Although McPhatter's accomplishments as a community leader are many, he has equally experienced a fair share of obstacles that challenged his growth. Born and raised in the gritty streets of South Brooklyn, N.Y., McPhatter's life started off unstable. Growing up in the foster care system, and never being introduced to his biological father, he quickly fell victim to street life as a means of survival. Consequently, at the mere age of 16, McPhatter was incarcerated for robbery and sent to Rikers Island Correctional Facility. Tapping into his keen sense of leadership ability, he became one of the first five adolescents to join the Nine Trey Gangster Bloods, the first blood set on the East Coast then one of the first generations of the Gangsta Killer Bloods aka G-Shine, Quickly rising in rank as "Trife Gangsta" in the organization, gang life not only increased McPhatter's influence and notoriety, it also led to over 18 arrests and a total of 13 years of incarceration. After a spiritual journey during his last prison stint, McPhatter decided to turn his life around and many others followed his path. Today he is a well-respected Social Justice Activist & Community leader and holds many titles including author, motivational speaker & Big Homie!

Total Propaganda written by Alex S. Edelstein and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-05 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Total Propaganda moves the study of propaganda out of the exclusive realm of world politics into the more inclusive study of popular culture, media, and politics. All the participatory functioning elements of the society are aspects of membership in the popular culture. Thus, the values of popular music, media, politics, debates over social issues, and even international trade become everyday propaganda to which everyone may relate. To emphasize the necessity for new thinking about propaganda, Edelstein creates the concepts of the new propaganda and the old, and he devises a language of "uninyms" to convey their meanings more quickly. "Oldprop" is characteristic of mass cultures and utilizes totalitarian methods of conflict, hegemony, minimization, demonization, and exclusiveness to achieve its goals. By contrast, "newprop" is created by members of the popular culture to allow them to engage in accomodation, enhance the individual, and promote inclusiveness. Shifts in the old and the new propaganda are tracked across social issues such as race, religion, sexuality, gender, gun control, and the environment, as well as in fashion, politics, advertising, sports, media, and politics. Central to the concept of total propaganda is that it is not simply additive; it is the product of new energies that are produced by the fusing of propaganda in such related forums as music, art, advertising, sports and politics. It is these synergies, and their production of new energies, that make total propaganda greater than the sum of its parts. Edelstein concludes that the most important distinction that should be drawn between mass culture and popular culture is its text; i.e., its propaganda. In a popular culture, everyone creates and consumes propaganda; in a mass culture almost everyone consumes it but only a few create it. This formulation offers new ways to discuss power and ideology in media texts. As an example, where once the least informed and the least educated were the most subject to propaganda, now the most informed and most educated often are the first to create propaganda and the first to consume it.

Signifying Rappers written by David Foster Wallace and has been published by Back Bay Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-23 with Music categories.

David Foster Wallace and Mark Costello's exuberant exploration of rap music and culture. Living together in Cambridge in 1989, David Foster Wallace and longtime friend Mark Costello discovered that they shared "an uncomfortable, somewhat furtive, and distinctively white enthusiasm for a certain music called rap/hip-hop." The book they wrote together, set against the legendary Boston music scene, mapped the bipolarities of rap and pop, rebellion and acceptance, glitz and gangsterdom. Signifying Rappers issued a fan's challenge to the giants of rock writing, Greil Marcus, Robert Palmer, and Lester Bangs: Could the new street beats of 1989 set us free, as rock had always promised? Back in print at last, Signifying Rappers is a rare record of a city and a summer by two great thinkers, writers, and friends. With a new foreword by Mark Costello on his experience writing with David Foster Wallace, this rerelease cannot be missed.
