Das vorliegende Buch thematisiert in erster Linie die Saisonarbeiterbeschäftigung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Die Zielsetzung der hierfür durchgeführten Untersuchung bestand darin, die temporäre Migration aus einem ökonomischen und einem moralischen Blickwinkel zu betrachten. Es wird analysiert inwieweit moralische Aspekte in der Beschäftigung der Saisonarbeiter Einzug finden. Hier wurde unter anderem geprüft, inwieweit die Wohnverhältnisse der Saisonarbeiter menschenwürdigen Ansprüchen genügen, inwieweit die Saisonarbeiter in den Betrieben integriert sind und ob die Lohnzahlungen an die Arbeiter moralisch gerechtfertigt sind. Der ökonomische Blickwinkel hinterfragte, ob alternative Lösungsmöglichkeiten zur Saisonarbeiterbeschäftigung vorliegen, und ob Saisonarbeiter möglicherweise heimische Arbeitsplätze verdrängen. In diesem Zusammenhang wurde auch hinterfragt ob die deutsche Landwirtschaftsproduktion ohne Saisonarbeitnehmer im globalen Wettbewerb bestehen kann. Darüber hinaus wurden die sozialen Strukturen der Wanderer analysiert und geprüft welche Motivationen aus Arbeitgeber- und Arbeitnehmersicht zu Wanderungen führen. Die Untersuchungen stützen sich auf anonym durchgeführte Befragungen bei 25 landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben.

The varying traditions in the migration research of different countries are closely connected to the respective national political landscape and the way in which the respective national state views itself – affirmative and positive or perhaps more self-critical.
