"In the early thirties Hitler concluded that to achieve his ambitions of power in Europe, absolute control must be established within Germany. He entrusted this task to Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS, who decided that he needed a small intelligence unit within the SS to monitor Nazi Party members and also anti-Nazi factions. The Nazi SS Security Service, the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) was formed for that purpose. It was created by Reinhard Heydrich and under his dedicated, methodical and ruthless hand it grew into one of the most professional and dangerous espionage services in the world. SS Intelligence traces its early beginnings, its struggle against underfunding and the rival organisations--to its triumphs across Europe, including the successful operation of spies in Allied countries. Of particular interest is a series of events that took place in the late summer of 1940 when the exiled Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson were targeted by Hitler as potential allies in his battle to overcome Britain's determination to fight. An elaborate plan was hatched to snatch the ex-royal couple from Portugal before they departed by sea across the Atlantic. It is a fascinating episode involving Hitler's agents, Spain, Portugal, Churchill and the British Secret Service. This book reveals many new facts and gives insights that will fascinate every student of Hitler's Third Reich--and the spying game."--Dust jacket.

Foundations Of The Nazi Police State written by George C. Browder and has been published by University Press of Kentucky this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-11 with History categories.

The abbreviation "Nazi," the acronym "Gestapo," and the initials "SS" have become resonant elements of our vocabulary. Less known is "SD," and hardly anyone recognizes the combination "Sipo and SD." Although Sipo and SD formed the heart of the National Socialist police state, the phrase carries none of the ominous impact that it should. Although no single organization carries full responsibility for the evils of the Third Reich, the SS-police system was the executor of terrorism and "population policy" in the same way the military carried out the Reich's imperialistic aggression. Within the police state, even the concentration camps could not rival the impact of Sipo and SD. It was the source not only of the "desk murderers" who administered terror and genocide by assigning victims to the camps, but also of the police executives for identification and arrest, and of the command and staff for a major instrument of execution, the Einsatzgruppen. Foundations of the Nazi Police State offers the narrative and analysis of the external struggle that created Sipo and SD. This book is the author's preface to his discussion of the internal evolution of these organizations in Hitler's Enforcers: The Gestapo and the SS Security Service in the Nazi Revolution.

Hidden Weapons written by Basil Collier and has been published by Pen and Sword this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-03-01 with History categories.

In his Foreword, Professor Jones writes 'Mr Collier takes the opportunity to review the contributions of all forms of Intelligence, and the use and misuse that was made of them, in all the major phases of World War II. His task has required very wide reading of the great volume of original documents and derivative literature now available, and I admire the judgement that is evident throughout the book. Within the limits of treating the widest aspects of Intelligence in World War II in a small compass, Mr Collier has told the whole truth, fortunately without it turning out to be very unfavorable; and in the lessons to be drawn from it we indeed have one element of security if properly applied'.Basil Collier throws fresh light on the low priority given to Intelligence between the wars; the tendency of ministers and senior officials to rely less on intelligence reports than their own individual hunches; the failure to foresee the invasion of Norway; why, even with the aid of Enigma it was impossible to turn the scales in Crete, and why the Americans, though privy to some of Japans most closely guarded secrets, allowed the Pearl Harbor attack to take them by surprise.

The Israeli Institute for Intelligence and Special Services, the Mossad, is pobably the best known of the world's intelligence services, one of the most sespected and, certainly, one of the most intriguing. However, despite its fame, the available literature, other than Hebrew, is limited and scattered amongst a variety of subject areas because the tentacles of the Mossad are similarly varied. The aim of this volume is to document the range of English language material available on «f Mossad from its pre-official origins in Europe during the Second World War to e present period of the Middle East peace process. The organization had its origins in the aftermath of the Holocaust, being the agency responsible for organizing the illegal Jewish immigration into Palestine before becoming officially constituted in 1951. Since its formation the Mossad has been intimately involved in each of the significant events in Israel's history, including actions against its Arab neighbors, the hunting of wanted Nazis, spectacular actions such as the raid on Entebbe to free the hostages, counter-terrorist activities, and high technology espionage against friend and foe alike. This bibliography will be of interest to researchers covering intelligence activities and to students, scholars, and librarians interested in the history of Israel and its relations with its Arab neighbors. The early material on the Mossad will also be of special concern to students of the Holocaust and its aftermath.
