Gene research at the CIA is an explosive sci-fi thriller where a young doctor named Dr. JANET STEWART is caught up in a top secret government experiment slipping out of control. Entangled in a web of politics, espionage and terrorism Dr. Stewart is taking the gamble of her life where one wrong move could be her last. Her discovery of the gene that controls a persons IQ is used in secret experiments in the armed forces, childrens clinics, prisons and at terrorist interrogations at Guantanamo Bay where personality changes are made. Her success advances her politically to earn a seat on the cabinet of the President of the United States. Dr. Stewarts association with two neurosurgeons Dr. JOHN STODDARD and Dr. JAMES ROTH lead to the discovery of the C mystery gene. An amazing observation is made after testing humans indicating this gene is fundamental in their thoughts involving faith and trust. They test an Atheist, Agnostic, dogmatic Catholic and a Muslim. Theories are made on how a suicide bomber constantly reinforces his faith gene to enable him to destroy his own life and that of others. Finally, the President of the United States decides to use these gene discoveries on thousands of foreign students invited as guests to study democracy and our life styles in the United States to, in effect, make them our secret ambassadors to promote democracy on their return home. This story illustrates how an innocent humanitarian idea slowly becomes a modern day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde scenario. Individual IQs are changed and personalities regress from adult to that of children. Even the President is enticed by the lure of absolute power through gene control. The warning is simple; as we follow the path to new genetic discoveries we must be valiant not to surrender our moral and ethical values. We have the power and knowledge to create monsters.

This story involves the illegal and legal swapping of one persons gene for implanting into another person to change their intelligence. Although this book is fictional, it points out the ways science could change our political and ethical values. This book begins with a goal to help disabled children through new discoveries and gene manipulations by swapping genes.. The main character, Dr. Janet Stewart, directs a secret CIA lab whose basic purpose is to discover how certain genes operate. Her discovery of the gene that controls a persons IQ is secretly tested in childrens clinics, military academies, prisons and finally in terrorist interrogations at Guantanamo Bay. Genetic swaps are performed with dramatic results. Dr. Stewarts associations with two neurosurgeons, who are also interested in genetic research, bring about the discovery of the C mystery gene. An amazing observation is made after testing humans at a secret lab in Pahrump, Nevada. This gene proves to be fundamental in a persons thought regarding faith and trust. This leads to tests with Atheists, Agnostics, Catholics and Muslims. Tests show how a suicide bomber constantly reinforces his faith gene, through free will, to enable him to destroy his own life and that of others. Finally, The President of the United States directs Dr. Stewart to devise a program to be used on all foreign students visiting the United States that would make them our secret ambassadors without them ever knowing it. This is not a far fetched idea. New gene discoveries are being made as you read this novel.. The purpose of this book is to give a simple warning. As a world leader the United States must be vigilant not to exchange human control for human rights. This new knowledge is dangerous in the wrong hands..

The articles in this volume represent papers delivered by invited speakers at the 7th International Symposium on the Immunobiology of Proteins and Peptides. In addition, a few of the abstracts submitted by participants were scheduled for minisymposia and some of the authors, whose presentations were judged by the Scientific Council to be of high quality, were invited to submit papers for publication in this volume. This symposium was established in 1976 for the purpose of bringing together, once every two or three years, active investigators in the forefront of contemporary immunology, to present their findings and discuss their significance in the light of current concepts and to identify important new directions of investigation. The founding of the symposium was stimulated by the achievement of major breakthroughs in the understanding of the immune recognition of proteins and peptides. We believed that these breakthroughs will lead to the creation of a new generation of peptide reagents which should have enormous potential in biological, therapeutic, and basic applications. This anticipated explosion has in fact since occurred and many applications of these peptides are now being realized. The seventh symposium focused on immune responses that have undesirable effects on the host, hence we named them unwanted immune responses. Two major aspects of unwanted immune responses were discussed at the symposium: Allergy and Autoimmunity.

Genes And Genetics Of Autoimmunity written by A. N. Theofilopoulos and has been published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Science categories.

Autoimmunity is one of the most highly investigated areas of immunologic research. The principle of immune system discrimination between self and foreign molecules is fundamental to the survival of the species, and the failure to establish or maintain this discrimination can lead to a wide spectrum of diseases. As a consequence of intensive studies, much has been learned with regard to the normal functioning of the immune system and the editing processes by which self-tolerance is established. Moreover, many theories and experimental models have been developed to explore the mechanisms of autoimmune disease pathogenesis. This book is the first volume of the new series 'Current Directions in Autoimmunity', which aims to consolidate current knowledge of autoimmunity focusing on both basic and clinical aspects. Given that these diseases have a strong genetic basis, it seems appropriate that the first volume addresses this topic. It reviews the most recent findings on genes affecting autoimmunity and genome-wide studies defining the multiple loci predisposing to prominent autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, arthritis, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. For each of these entities, studies in experimental models as well as humans are covered. The authoritative and timely material will be of interest to investigators in the fields of immunology and genetics, to clinicians with interest in rheumatology, endocrinology and neurology, and to those working to devise gene-specific therapies for a variety of inflammatory conditions.

In this, the first full-length study of the Directorate of Science and Technology, Jeffrey T. Richelson walks us down the corridors of CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and through the four decades of science, scientists, and managers that produced the CIA we have today. He tells a story of amazing technological innovation in service of intelligence gathering, of bitter bureaucratic infighting, and sometimes, as in the case of its "mind-control" adventure, of stunning moral failure. Based on original interviews and extensive archival research, The Wizards of Langley turns a piercing lamp on many of the agency's activities, many never before made public.
