Leigh Brennon's never been normal. She was born with abilities other humans don't have, and when she finds a letter from an estranged relative, she might finally learn why. On her journey for answers, she meets a mysterious boy, Kane Kelly, and he's only the first complication. When a stranger reveals the tragic truth about her father's death, she'll find herself in a world where nothing is what it seems. Rumors swirl about faceless men, human experiments, and super-soldier programs, and Leigh isn't the only one keeping secrets. Kane Kelly knew exactly who he was. He made peace with knowing what he could never have, but Leigh Brennon's sudden presence in his life threatens the careful control he worked so hard for. When he finds out Leigh carries the Ascendant gene, too, his loyalties shift, and he finds himself lying to everyone he cares about to protect her. In a town full of mysteries, where every dark corner hides monsters, and every night brings a new challenge, Kane and Leigh team up with other Ascendants, including a girl who can manipulate electricity, and a boy with a rare form of Progeria. Leigh must figure out who's hunting them, before history repeats itself, while Kane tries to prevent his worst nightmare from becoming reality. There's no limit to how far he'll go to protect the ones he loves, even if it means sacrificing himself.

In Instilling Values in Transcending Generations, Tieman Dippel creates a new paradigm in his focus on the power of a culture of morality and individual responsibility to impact the more competitive powers of economics and partisan politics. Rather than a book on morality, it is a book on the power of morality and how to shape society. It teaches readers to value individual responsibility and character rather than adopt a concept of victimization. In doing so it explains the necessity of changing the current drift that American culture has taken toward materialistic relativism. It is a book about the power of morality and the necessity of having a common core of ideas. It is focused on teaching readers how to more effectively fight in a world dominated by the powers of convenience, corruption, and terrorism.

In the days following Kane's abduction, unforeseen circumstances arise, leaving Leigh and her friends to pick up the pieces alone. Or, so they thought. On a rescue mission that is both dangerous, and likely hopeless, they are met by a group of strangers who aid them in retrieving their lost friend. The strangers take them to the Compound--a haven for Ascendants--with the promise of safety, but Leigh can't get over the nagging feeling their new allies are hiding something. While Kane struggles with the side effects of his time in Driscol, Leigh learns the shocking truth behind the Compounds generosity; a truth that rewrites history. The Ascendants are forced to adapt to their new surroundings. They're faced with Dean's ever-growing presence, and the clock is ticking. They must find out what the weapon is, before it's too late. As the stakes are raised, choices are made; lines are drawn; loyalties are tested. And a crippling tragedy threatens to destroy the bonds holding the Ascendants together.

In Alone in the World? -- first given as the 2004 Gifford Lectures at the University of Edinburgh -- J. Wentzel van Huyssteen develops the interdisciplinary dialogue that he set out in The Shaping of Rationality (1999), applying this methodology to the uncharted waters between theological anthropology and paleoanthropology. Among other things, van Huyssteen argues that scientific notions of human uniqueness help us to ground theological notions of human distinctiveness in flesh-and-blood, embodied experiences and protect us from overly complex theological abstractions regarding the "image of God." Focusing on the interdisciplinary problem of human origins and distinctiveness, van Huyssteen accesses the origins of the embodied human mind through the spectacular prehistoric cave paintings of western Europe, fifteen of which are reproduced in color in this volume. Boldly connecting the widely separated fields of Christian theology and paleoanthropology through careful interdisciplinary reflection, Alone in the World? will encourage sustained investigation into the question of human uniqueness.

Transcending Gender Ideology written by Antonio Malo and has been published by Catholic University of America Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-07 with Religion categories.

Human sexuality is a very important subject, especially in a cultural context such as ours, in which social and work transformations offer behavioral models that are characterized by a remarkable sexual indeterminacy. In Transcending Gender Ideology, Antonio Malo tries to rethink sexuality with equilibrium and intellectual rigor, using a philosophical approach, since sexuality does not only affect biological aspects or social conditioning, but above all the same essence of the relationship between man and woman. Malo’s reflections begin with the historical evolution of the concept of sexuality: the naturalistic conception, which sees the difference between man and woman as something biological and absolute, and the postmodern conception, which criticizes it by judging human sexuality as a socio-cultural construction or gender. According to Malo, the limitation of the gender approach is to deny the relationship of human sexuality to the body and to the differences between man and woman. In fact, by rejecting these aspects, they end up sustaining a limitless creativity of freedom, which transforms the body into something that is used at will, and relationships as something fluid. Faced with these extremes, Malo proposes a vision of sexuality as a personal condition or sexed condition, received at the time of birth, but which develops, grows and matures through family models, experiences and relationships. Even if based on an original sexual difference, sexed condition covers many other aspects: physical, psychological, social and cultural, as well as behavioral patterns and, above all, the personal integration of sexuality through the gift of oneself in marriage or in celibacy.
