What a privilege and an honor to present Issue 2 of GENEVA ... DON'T LEAVE HER ~ OUR FAMILY MAGAZINE! The first issue was warmly received by the family. Now our biggest challenge is determining WHAT to include in each issue, as we are blessed to have so much history and so many successful people in our family - including YOU!Recently we spoke to someone who wanted to plan a reunion in Geneva, but decided against it because there was nothing to do after dark. I agreed with them 100% because ummmm, there is NOTHING to do in Geneva. Later in the week as I moved about the kitchen, that statement came to mind and my best friend named "Something" said, "You were right. There is NOTHING to do in Geneva. So, check this out. Your ancestors took that same NOTHING and built thriving, prosperous and successful lives including businesses, schools, churches, cemeteries, and a Village where everyone was concerned about everyone else." Immediately I stopped in my tracks and marveled at the fact that our forebears really did build successful lives with no education, no money, no social rights - and left everything the next generation would need to survive. It's no wonder success comes easily for our family. Look at us! We can honestly say that on our jobs and in our businesses, we have all achieved much success. And to whom much is given, much more is required.GENEVA ... DON'T LEAVE HER ~ OUR FAMILY MAGAZINE has a mission: to serve as a reminder of where we have come from, and to provide direction and inspiration for where our future generations are going. Long Live Geneva! Please Don't Leave Her ... ... Alone.

Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Ivory written by Keith Somerville and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-30 with African elephant categories.

Half of Tanzania's elephants have been killed for their ivory since 2007. A similar alarming story can be told of the herds in northern Mozambique and across swathes of central Africa, with forest elephants losing almost two-thirds of their numbers to the tusk trade. The huge rise in poaching and ivory smuggling in the new millennium has destroyed the hope that the 1989 ivory trade ban had capped poaching and would lead to a long-term fall in demand. But why the new upsurge? The answer is not simple. Since ancient times, large-scale killing of elephants for their tusks has been driven by demand outside Africa's elephant ranges - from the Egyptian pharaohs through Imperial Rome and industrialising Europe and North America to the new wealthy business class of China. And, who poaches and why do they do it? In recent years lurid press reports have blamed mass poaching on rebel movements and armed militias, especially Somalia's Al Shabaab, tying two together two evils - poaching and terrorism. But does this account stand up to scrutiny? This new and ground-breaking examination of the history and politics of ivory in Africa forensically examines why poaching happens in Africa and why it is corruption, crime and politics, rather than insurgency, that we should worry about.
