A remarkably trenchant collection of early stories by “the dark prince of American letters” exploring the injustice and desperation of a forgotten America (Pete Hamill, author of A Drinking Life). Bold and uncompromising, Gentleman Junkie and Other Stories of the Hung-up Generation is a watershed moment in Harlan Ellison’s early writing career. Rather than dealing in speculative fiction, these twenty-five short stories directly tackle issues of discrimination, injustice, bigotry, and oppression by the police. Pulling from his own experience, Ellison paints vivid portraits of the helpless and downtrodden, blazing forth with the kind of unblinking honesty that would define his career. Reviewing this collection, Dorothy Parker called Ellison “a good, honest, clean writer, putting down what he has seen and known, and no sensationalism about it.”

Five years in the making, the Edgeworks Abbey Archive represents Harlan Ellison's last word on his written legacy. Researched and edited by Ellison's long-time associate, Jason Davis, under the supervision of Harlan and Susan Ellison, this collection assembles the preferred texts of each story and essay along with previously uncollected and unpublished material to create the definitive edition. This is the book that established Harlan Ellison once and for all as a master of short fiction; this is the book that took Ellison to Hollywood; and this is the only paperback book, ever, reviewed by the legendary Dorothy Parker in Esquire magazine:"It is not the province of this department to take up recent paperbacks? But lately there has come into my weary hands a paperback of short stories by Harlan Ellison, a young writer whose name I had not known before. The book is horribly titled, 'Gentleman Junkie and Other Stories of the Hung-Up Generation.' ? It turns out that Mr. Ellison is a good, honest, clean writer, putting down what he has seen and known, and no sensationalism about it? I cannot recommend it too vehemently."DOROTHY PARKER

Like so many other great poets Dylan used opiates to enhance his poetry and music. This author did his best to dissuade him from using dugi, even giving him a birthday cake with hypos as candles for his 30th birthday. Even though Dylan might have ended up another accident statistic he wrote the greatest peon to heroin ever written Mr. Tambourine Man, a later version of Spanish Harlem incident. Dylan fans ridiculed this author for saying Dylan was a doper until the BBC released a tape recorded confession wherein Dylan admits he had a monkey on his back. Now Dylan realizes that his nemesis Al was right about his hard drug use and penned a poem entitled Long and Wasted Years. This book translates Dylan's Dugi poetry in which Dylan romanticized addiction and got my friend John Lennon strung out on smack.

Christianity S Dangerous Idea written by Jonas E. Alexis and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Social Science categories.

Today many in Hollywood and the media have declared open warfare on the family, education, and Christianity in general. Intellectuals have labeled religion, particularly Christianity, as mere wish fulfillment or a virus of the mind, something to be eradicated at all costs. In Christianity's Dangerous Idea, Jonas Alexis picks up where he left off in his previous books and continues to examine the ideological fallacies that have been fabricated in order to attack Christianity and the people who promote those fallacies. This latest book is a tour de force of rigorous logic and testable evidence for the Christian worldview from history, science, experience, common sense, and final destiny. More importantly, Alexis subjects the rivals of Christianity to the same rigorous testing. Christianity's Dangerous Idea clearly demonstrates the destructive nature of popular atheistic and anti-Christian philosophies, spread throughout Western culture by such famous people as Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, David Cronenberg, Steven Spielberg, Alan Moore, William S. Burroughs, Philip K. Dick, Bruce Lee, Ayn Rand, Bart D. Ehrman, Richard Dawkins, and many more. In a scholarly yet readable fashion, Alexis shows that what the ancient Greeks often referred to as "the cult of Dionysus" has become mainstream in our modern age.

This comprehensive volume offers a dynamic new approach to understanding and solving the drug problem. This text applies the techniques and formulations of general semantics to investigate and make recommendations about various aspects of drug abuse. General semantics, a process problem-solving approach based on the primacy of the scientific method and importance of language as a shaper of thoughts and perceptions, has a proven record of success in problem-solving across a wide variety of disciplines and fields. Topics examined include American drug history and policy, the legalization issue, drugs and creativity, treatment, and prevention. A chronological overview of drug-taking in human history and a resource guide are provided. One chapter offers an in-depth description of an effective drug abuse prevention model and a program using the model.

Paranormal secret agent Eddie Drood has never been one to shy away from risk. But in New York Times bestselling author Simon R. Green’s seventh Secret Histories novel, the smart-aleck spy is going to gamble far more than he can afford to lose... Eddie Drood (aka: “Shaman Bond”) is on the outs with his capricious family. Nothing too disturbing, mind you. Just some old grudges, long-simmering lies, and the occasional assassination attempt, So, in the name of his own longevity, Eddie’s taking his talents freelance (a man’s got to earn a living). But earning a living can get a lot closer to dying than Eddie would like. Under the auspices of the Department of the Uncanny, Eddie and his witchy love Molly Metcalf have been assigned to attend the Casino Infernale—a gathering of the most powerful, wealthy, and sinister supernatural super criminals hosted by the ever-enigmatic Shadow Bank. Eddie and Molly are to infiltrate the affair, toss some wrenches into the works, and take down the Bank once and for all. The stakes are high, the competition lethal. And while Eddie might be able to buy his way into this game, he won’t be able to buy his way out to save his life...
