Vor einigen Jahren überkam mich große Lust, Italienisch zu lernen, eine der schönsten Sprachen, die ich kenne. Ich dachte, in meinem etwas fortgeschrittenen Alter dürfte ich es mir vielleicht leichter machen und entschied mich für einen Audio-Sprachkurs mit »realistischen Gesprächssituationen und vielen interkulturellen Tipps«, wie auf der CD-Verpackung beschrieben. Meine Sprachtrainerin hieß Anna, eine Frau mit sympathischer Stimme, der ich gern nachsprach. Schon nach wenigen Fahrten zur Arbeit konnte ich grüßen und mich vorstellen. In Kapitel fünf bereitete mich Anna auf einen Hotelaufenthalt in Italien vor, der aber stets von einigen Unwegsamkeiten begleitet schien. Der Dialog, den ich mit einer imaginären Padrona dell' Albergo führte, lautete: »Guten Tag, mein Name ist Wolff.« – »Es tut mir leid, ich habe keine Reservierung.« – »Wie bitte? Wo ist der Chef?« – »Der Chef ist nicht da.« – »Und jetzt? Ist noch ein Zimmer frei?« – »Ja, da ist noch ein Doppelzimmer.« Nachdem ich mir dieses offenbar angesehen hatte, kehrte ich für einige schmallippige Feststellungen zurück: »Das Zimmer ist klein. Das Bett ist kurz. Da ist keine Decke.« Bei meiner nächsten Italienreise konnte ich vom Gelernten außer meinem Namen leider nichts anwenden: Mein Zimmer war hinreißend, das Bett King-Size und die Decke federig wie von Frau Holle selbst gestopft. Es wurden so wundervolle Tage in Italien, wie ich Sie Ihnen auch wünsche: Viel Spaß auf Ihrer Reise zwischen Amalfiküste und Sizilien (S. 22).
