New competitive realities have ruptured industry boundaries, overthrown much of standard management practice, and rendered conventional models of strategy and growth obsolete. In their stead have come the powerful ideas and methodologies of Gary Hamel and C.K. Prahalad, whose much-revered thinking has already engendered a new language of strategy. In this book, they develop a coherent model for how today's executives can identify and accomplish no less than heroic goals in tomorrow's marketplace. Their masterful blueprint addresses how executives can ease the tension between competing today and clearing a path toward leadership in the future.

Whether a firm produces office equipment, deep-space probes, polyethylene bread-wrapping film, or cardiac pacemakers, they must manage technological innovation effectively. In this volume, Edward B. Roberts brings together essays from the Sloan Management Review that consider three crucial questions: which people, which structures, and which strategies produce the most useful ideas? Among other topics, the essays consider the kind of staff needed and the ways a manager can maximize their productivity; outline the benefits and risks of various management styles in the cardiac-pacemaker industry; and explore the direct and indirect influence of government on technology strategy. In addition, the book includes a complete overview of research in this area, providing indispensable background information as well as suggestions for further reading.

Romania S Hardware And Software Industry written by Mihaiela Grundey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with categories.

This paper reviews the past, present and future of Romania's information technology (IT) industries. It describes Romania's IT industry under Communism and the changes in both IT policies and the IT industry following the December 1989 revolution. Though flawed in many ways, Romania's Communist-era isolationism did lead to some build-up of IT-related technological capabilities.Post-1989 liberalisation has encouraged a suppression of higher-level capabilities but a substantial increase in lower-level IT skills. Hardware capabilities have been lost far more than those in software. In part, this is due to various 'natural protections' that shield the domestic software market from foreign packages. In part, it is due to continued state support for Romania's software industry.Future development of this industry is likely to focus more on services than packages, and more on the domestic than the export market. However, future development will depend on continuing government intervention: not the state ownership and regulation of the Communist era, but promotional interventions that support what will be a vital keystone of all national economies in the 21st century.

In 1980 the Indian software industry was practically non-existent. By the 1990s the industry was one of the largest employers in manufacturing. Similar patterns of growth can be found in other emerging economies. So given that the software industry is commonly viewed as a high-tech industry, how is it that such spectacular growth has occurred in countries where high-tech industries would not seem likely to develop? This book examines the reasons behind this phenomenon, and asks whether it suggests a new model of economic development. The contributors explore the implications of the rise of these newcomers to the software market for the global industry, and whether there are things to be learnt about the role of human capital in economic growth, firm formation and capabilities, business and managerial models, and industry structure. Chapters include country studies on Brazil, China, India, Ireland, and Israel, and are complemented by cross-cutting chapters on some of the key issues highlighted by the growth patterns of software in these nations, most notably the role of the multinational companies, the globalization of the skilled worker flows, and the formation of firm capabilities. The novelty of the growth patterns in the regions that studied makes this book useful for understanding analytical and empirical issues underlying new microfoundations of economic growth in some emerging regions of the world.
