L'étude s'interroge sur la construction des sexes dans l'oeuvre littéraire de Lou Andreas-Salomé écrite jusqu'en 1905 et sur celle présentée dans ses textes théoriques, notamment dans "L'humanité de la femme" (1899). Le but est d'exposer une conception théorique et littéraire propre à l'auteur avant son entrée au cercle de Vienne. En partant d'un déterminisme biologique, Salomé dessine dans sa théorie une image de la suprématie de la femme toute en soulignant que la sexualité est le moteur de l'évolution et que la femme en tant que pars pro toto en est représentante. A l'opposé, dans les textes littéraires dont Der heimliche Weg: Drei Scenen aus einem Ehedrama (1901) négligé jusqu'à présent par la recherche, la sexualité est sémantisée par différentes méthodes de son empêchement dont l'inceste, et se cache derrière le motif d'une répartition conventionnelle des rôles. Ceci donne la possibilité à l'étude d'élaborer une typologie de la femme reflétant les courants sociaux et culturels de son temps. C'est bien par les contenus exposés dans sa prose que l'auteur s'inscrit dans son époque littéraire de la modernité classique et appartient incontestablement à son canon.
