The Generalized Escape System Simulation (GESS) program is a computerized mathematical model for dynamically simulating the performance of existing or developmental aircraft ejection seat systems. The program generates six-dimensional trajectory predictions of the aircraft, seat/occupant, occupant alone, and seat alone by calculating the forces and moments imposed on these elements by the seat catapults, rails, rockets, stabilization, and recovery systems included in most escape system configurations. User options are provided to simulate the performance of all conventional escape system designs under most environmental conditions and aircraft attitudes or trajectories. This GESS User's Guide describes the elements and events occurring in typical escape systems, the theory and formulation of the simulation model, and the procedures necessary to successfully prepare, execute, and utilize this and the related ACT and DRAS programs.
