No person on earth has ever enjoyed the intimacy Moses had with God. No one spent more time with God; no one understood Him better. Moses lived during one of the darkest times of Hebrew history and yet his life is a remarkable example of intimacy with the Almighty. How did Moses grow closer to God even in such dark times? What can Christians learn from Moses about growing closer to God today? Through the life of Moses, arguably one of the greatest leaders in history, popular pastor and best-selling author Erwin W. Lutzer leads readers on a journey to becoming better acquainted with the Lord. After suggested Bible readings at the beginning of each chapter, Lutzer expounds on the biblical text to demonstrate key lessons in pursuing intimacy with God. Lutzer shows how Moses learned to overcome doubt after hearing God's call, how Moses learned to obey God at the burning bush, how Moses came to trust God while wandering in the wilderness, and how Moses obeyed God in leading the nation of Israel. Through these lessons, Lutzer helps believers expose the excuses and idols that come between them and God so that they may be motivated to pursue Him and to "draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith" (Hebrews 10:22 NIV).

"This is a book about getting, and staying, involved with God--what it takes, what it costs, what it looks and feels like, why anyone would want to do it anyway. It is at the same time a book about reading the Old Testament as a source of Good News and guidance for our life with God. The key piece of Good News that the Old Testament communicates over and over again is that God is involved with us, deeply and irrevocably so." --from the Introduction With sound scholarship and her own vivid translations from the Hebrew, Old Testament professor Ellen Davis teaches us a spiritually engaged method of reading scripture. Beginning with the psalms, whose frank prayers can be a model for our own, Davis reflects on the stories of the patriarchs and the pastoral wisdom of the book of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs in helping us cultivate those habits of the heart that lead to a rich relationship with God.

Getting In The Gap written by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and has been published by Hay House, Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-12-03 with Self-Help categories.

The practice of meditation takes us on a fabulous journey into the gap between our thoughts, where all the advantages of a more peaceful, stress-free, healthy, and fatigue-free life are available, but which are simply side benefits. The paramount reason for daily meditation is to get into the gap between our thoughts, and make conscious contact with the creative energy of life itself. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explains the soul-nourishing meditation technique for making conscious contact with God, which the ancient masters have told us about. You have the potential to be an instrument of the highest good for all concerned and to be a literal miracle worker in your own life. No person, government, or religion can legitimately claim to do this for you. "In fact," says Dr. Dyer, "I agree with Carl Jung who said, ‘One of the main functions of formalized religion is to protect people against a direct experience of God.’" When you master getting into the gap and staying there for prolonged segments of meditation, and experience what you bring back to the material world, you will know your answer to the question: "Why meditate?"

Reading a tone of voice into printed words, especially the personal experience of an email or text, can disconnect two people, even friends. Having one friend reinterpret the way another "heard" the words with their own tone of voice may lead them into discovering how Jesus seems to hear God differently, even though he read the same Bible. In Getting God Wrong, the reader is invited into a conversation on how they taught themselves to misunderstand the One who loves them best. "Instructions" is the same word that gets translated "commandments," and "guidance" is the same word sometimes translated "law." This shift of translations can affect one's emotional engagement with the ideas. People have told themselves for centuries that God marched the people of Israel out of four hundred years of slavery, out into the desert, to tell them, "Now you'll be my slaves and live under my commandments!" What if God used a different tone of voice, and not the one people usually "hear" as they read? Getting God Wrong suggests that God wants people to hear his heart as clearly as Jesus lived it out in front of them. Jesus is God's tone of voice.
