This book introduces all the technical features that make up blockchain technology today. It starts with a thorough explanation of all technological concepts necessary to understand any discussions related to distributed ledgers and a short history of earlier implementations. It then discusses in detail how the Bitcoin network looks and what changes are coming in the near future, together with a range of altcoins that were created on the same base code. To get an even better idea, the book shortly explores how Bitcoin might be forked before going into detail on the Ethereum network and cryptocurrencies running on top of the network, smart contracts, and more. The book introduces the Hyperledger foundation and the tools offered to create private blockchain solutions. For those willing, it investigates directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) and several of its implementations, which could solve several of the problems other blockchain networks are still dealing with to this day. In Chapter 4, readers can find an overview of blockchain networks that can be used to build solutions of their own and the tools that can help them in the process.

Men's Cinema offers a fresh theorisation of men in Hollywood cinema via a theoretical discussion of definitions of masculinity and the close textual analysis of classic and contemporary films. Through an examination of mise-en-scene, Men's Cinema moves beyond discussions of representation and narrative to an exploration of the physical or instinctive effects of cinema and how we are invited to engage with, desire or identify with Hollywood's vision of men and masculinity. By delineating how Hollywood has built up and refined the language of men's cinema through a series of recurrent, refined tropes, this book critically explores masculinity and the concept of a male aesthetic within film.Films discussed include: The Deer Hunter, Dirty Harry, Goodfellas, Inception, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Once Upon a Time in the West, Point Break, Raging Bull, Rebel Without A Cause, Reservoir Dogs, Sherlock Holmes, There's Always Tomorrow, The Wild Bunch.

From Traditional Fault Tolerance To Blockchain written by Wenbing Zhao and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-29 with Computers categories.
This book covers the most essential techniques for designing and building dependable distributed systems, from traditional fault tolerance to the blockchain technology. Topics include checkpointing and logging, recovery-orientated computing, replication, distributed consensus, Byzantine fault tolerance, as well as blockchain. This book intentionally includes traditional fault tolerance techniques so that readers can appreciate better the huge benefits brought by the blockchain technology and why it has been touted as a disruptive technology, some even regard it at the same level of the Internet. This book also expresses a grave concern on using traditional consensus algorithms in blockchain because with the limited scalability of such algorithms, the primary benefits of using blockchain in the first place, such as decentralization and immutability, could be easily lost under cyberattacks.

In Silicon Valley, every innovation promises progress—but behind the code lies the power to control the world. Evelyn Novadale built Nova Technologies on a radical belief: artificial intelligence should be ethical, transparent, and human-first. For her, technology is meant to protect people, not exploit them. Across the city, Caleb Ortiz—her former best friend and cofounder turned bitter rival—has built Syntra Systems into a juggernaut fueled by ambition and ruthless pragmatism. For Caleb, rules are obstacles, and success demands crossing every line. When a leaked prototype exposes one company for secretly harvesting private data, San Francisco erupts. Lawsuits mount, investors scatter, and the media smells blood. Evelyn and Caleb find themselves locked in a very public war, their personal history weaponized in the headlines. But as Evelyn digs deeper, she uncovers something far more dangerous than corporate betrayal: their feud has been engineered. A shadowy global conglomerate has been pulling the strings from the beginning, manipulating both Nova and Syntra to seize control of the next generation of AI. Smear campaigns give way to sabotage. Blackmail replaces boardroom battles. And when protests outside Nova’s headquarters turn violent—with blood on the streets—Evelyn realizes she’s running out of time. To survive, she must make the hardest decision of her life: destroy Caleb once and for all… or trust him again, long enough to take down the real enemy. Because in the race to control tomorrow, only one rule matters: those who hold the code, hold the world.

Many reports estimated that in 2024, the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices exceeded 18 billion worldwide, with predictions suggesting that it could reach nearly 40 billion by 2033. Despite primarily being consumer devices, a growing number of them will find use in industrial and enterprise applications. This shows the significance of IoT and how it shapes the future. However, to realize its full potential, we must address its emerging challenges and highlight recent applications, advances, and trends, which is the focus of this book. Security and privacy represent some of the key challenges IoT adopters face. The severity of these issues is exacerbated by the growing number of IoT devices, the expansion of Industry 4.0 (and the emergence of Industry 5.0), and the significant increase in cybersecurity attacks. Considering that ensuring security and privacy is crucial for the successful adoption of IoT, this book dedicates several chapters to these areas. This book also introduces some novel models that improve IoT environments and presents several practical implementations that utilize IoT to demonstrate some of its real‐world applications. Furthermore, it examines several emerging technologies that enable the realization of advanced IoT environments. We see most IoT advances in three main areas: the integration of artificial intelligence/machine learning, network technologies, and hardware design. Therefore, this book dedicates several chapters to these areas. Most chapters touch on artificial intelligence/machine learning, emphasizing the significance of these technologies in today’s and next‐eneration applications. The main objective of this book is to capture the state of the art in IoT and explore some of its emerging challenges, solutions, and technologies. This peer‐eviewed book serves as a reference for researchers, academics, practitioners, and graduate‐evel students.
