Art Of The Deal written by Noah Horowitz and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-31 with Antiques & Collectibles categories.

Art today is defined by its relationship to money as never before. Prices of living artists' works have been driven to unprecedented heights, conventional boundaries within the art world have collapsed, and artists now think ever more strategically about how to advance their careers. Artists no longer simply make art, but package, sell, and brand it. Noah Horowitz exposes the inner workings of the contemporary art market, explaining how this unique economy came to be, how it works, and where it's headed. He takes a unique look at the globalization of the art world and the changing face of the business, offering the clearest analysis yet of how investors speculate in the market and how emerging art forms such as video and installation have been drawn into the commercial sphere. By carefully examining these developments against the backdrop of the deflation of the contemporary art bubble in 2008, "Art of the Deal" is a must-read book that demystifies collecting and investing in today's art market.

The Gift Of Thanks written by Margaret Visser and has been published by HMH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-19 with Social Science categories.

“A scholarly, many-angled examination of what gratitude is and how it functions in our lives” from the bestselling author of The Rituals of Dinner (The New York Times). Known as an “anthropologist of everyday life,” Margaret Visser has won numerous awards for illuminating the unexpected meanings of everyday objects and rituals. Now she turns her keen eye to another custom so ubiquitous that it often escapes notice: saying “Thank you.” What do we really mean by these two simple words? This fascinating inquiry into all aspects of gratitude explores such topics as the unyielding determination of parents to teach their children to thank; the difference between speaking the words and feeling them; and the ways different cultures handle the complex matters of giving, receiving, and returning favors and presents. Visser elucidates the fundamental opposition in our own culture between gift-giving and commodity exchange, as well as the similarities between gratitude and its opposite, vengefulness. The Gift of Thanks considers cultural history, including the modern battle of social scientists to pin down the notion of thankfulness and account for it, and the newly awakened scientific interest in the biological and evolutionary roots of emotions. With characteristic wit and erudition, Visser once again reveals the extraordinary in the everyday. “An anthropological and philosophical account of how and why we give thanks. . . . All delivered in elegant, clear prose. A book to be thankful for—sympathetic to human foible, deeply learned and a pleasure to read.” —Kirkus Reviews “A delightful and graceful gift of a book, for which any fortunate recipient will be thankful.” —Publishers Weekly

A Human Restoration written by Giuseppina Scavuzzo and has been published by LetteraVentidue this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-21 with Architecture categories.

Beginning with the double meaning of the Italian verb "riparare" (to protect and to restore) we compare architecture — which has always had the task of building shelter but which, today, also proposes to restore existing buildings and the urban fabric — with psychiatry, which in its history has claimed to repair the mind of the insane, protecting both the afflicted and society itself through internment. The comparison between architecture and psychiatry is appropriate if one is planning the repurposing of a former mental hospital, and the comparison becomes incredibly pertinent if the asylum in question is the one where, in 1961, the battle for the rights of people with mental disorders was born, leading to the "Basaglia Law" of 1978 which banished an architectural typology — that of the psychiatric hospital — that had become the symbol of the denial of those rights. The story of this hospital, now called Basaglia Park, is marginal in every sense — one of its edges coincides with the state border — and at the same time, it is central to a troubled history involving the intersection of cultures, identities and languages, making it emblematic in light of contemporary events. With all its complexity, this place has been proposed as the subject of knowledgeable reflection and different design practices.

Handbook Of Family Therapy Training And Supervision written by Howard A. Liddle and has been published by Guilford Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-06-17 with Psychology categories.

Over the last three decades, family therapy has revolutionized the mental health field, changing the way human problems are conceived and therapy is conducted. In concert with the dynamic growth of family therapy, the field of family therapy training and supervision has also expanded enormously yielding many new ideas and skills. Yet, until now, few books have been devoted to it, and no single volume has attempted to relate the full breadth of this growing field in terms of its conceptual and theoretical expansion as well as its practical application. HANDBOOK OF FAMILY THERAPY TRAINING AND SUPERVISION fills this need by presenting a truly comprehensive view of this dynamic area. To accomplish this broad yet in-depth scope, editors Liddle, Breunlin, and Schwartz have assembled 30 highly acclaimed authorities to author chapters in their respective areas of expertise. For further clarification, the editors have included segues that introduce and analyze each of the book's four major sections providing the reader with an overview of the section, highlights of themes that run through it, and discussion of the issues raised in a way that ties the chapters together. The book opens with a presentation of the unique and innovative approaches to training and supervision that have evolved in each separate school of family therapy. Offering a panoramic view of the entire field of family therapy, these seven chapters allow for fascinating comparisons among the different schools regarding the process by which ideas about therapy evolve into training techniques and philosophies. Section II follows with an explication of the pragmatics of family therapy supervision. Helping family therapy trainers avoid and anticipate the common mistakes involved with supervision, the skills described in this section create an atmosphere conducive to learning and maintaining a working trainer-trainee relationship, and finally, for training of supervisors. Practical guidelines for using live and video supervision are included. Section III features family therapy trainers in such diverse fields as psychiatry, psychology, family medicine, social work, nursing, free-standing and academic family therapy programs, who describe the problems and advantages they encounter teaching these new ideas within their idiosyncratic contexts. The book closes with a section that includes reflections on the field by such innovative and respected leaders as Cloe Madanes and Jay Haley. Among topics covered are perspectives and recommendations for researchers evaluating family therapy, practical advice for incorporating a cultural perspective into training programs, feedback on the experience of live supervision from trainees' perspectives. An appendix follows that provides over 400 references organized by subject for easy reference. Given the level and scope of this extraordinary text, FAMILY THERAPY TRAINING AND SUPERVISION is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in teaching, learning, or simply appreciating family therapy.
