Monsignor Luigi Giussani (1922–2005) was the founder of the Catholic lay movement Communion and Liberation in Italy, which has hundreds of thousands of adherents around the globe. In The Life of Luigi Giussani Alberto Savorana, who spent an important part of his life working and studying with Giussani, draws on many unpublished documents to recount who the priest was and how he lived. Giussani’s life story is particularly significant because it shares many of the same challenges, risks, and paths toward enlightenment that are described in his numerous and influential publications. Savorana demonstrates that the circumstances Giussani experienced and the people he encountered played a crucial role in defining his vocation. Illuminating details are shared about Giussani’s parents, professors, and friends in the seminary, the things he read, his priesthood, his experience teaching, misunderstandings and moments of recognition, and illness. Luigi Giussani considered Christianity to be a fact, a real event in human life, which takes the form of an encounter, inviting anyone and everyone to verify its relevance to life’s needs. This is what happened for so many people all over the world who recognized in this priest and leader, with his rough and captivating voice, not only a teacher to learn from, but above all a man to compare oneself with – a companion for the journey who could be trusted to answer the question: how can we live? In addition to providing the first chronological reconstruction of the life of the founder of Communion and Liberation, The Life of Luigi Giussani provides a detailed account of his legacy and what his life’s work meant to individual people and the Church.

Journey To Truth Is An Experience written by Luigi Giussani and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-12 with Religion categories.

As a young priest, Luigi Giussani was troubled by Catholicism's inability to effectively deal with secularism or laicism. In 1954 he began to develop a vision of faith rooted in experience. His ideas resonated with students and led to the birth of the Gioventù Studentesca (Student Youth) movement. Known today as Communion and Liberation, the movement is flourishing in Italy and around the world, including Canada, the United States, Brazil, Uganda, and Britain. The Journey to Truth Is an Experience is the first English translation of Il Cammino al vero è un'esperienza, Giussani's early works on the Christian experience, written from 1959-64. It begins with a guide on how to live the Christian life within the Student Youth community, followed by a call to base one's relationship with Christ on the example set by the apostles and other figures in the New Testament. Giussani concludes by outlining the movement's mission and the possibility for community, charity, and communion in the Christian life.

It is difficult to find a surgeon like Enzo Piccinini. He never gave up. He knew how to take risks when others held back. When patients turned to him, he took each person to heart and never abandoned them, even when there was nothing more he could do surgically. However, if there was even the slightest possibility of a solution, he would doggedly pursue it, striving to help each patient any way he could. Enzo Piccinini was an amazing surgeon but also a true friend to everyone he cared about. He was a wonderful father, not only to his four children, but also to the many people he led to embrace Christianity. He was one of the most resolute proponents of contemporary Catholicism-his actions have opened thousands of hearts to the truth and beauty of Christ. For him, every patient was an image of the suffering Christ; every person was sacred. He became a world-class surgeon because he felt that every person deserved the best medical care possible. In his practice and in his life, he embodied the ultimate form of "personalized medicine." Sadly, Enzo died in a car accident on May 26, 1999 in Fidenza, Italy. His funeral was attended by more than seven thousand people. After receiving news of Enzo's sudden death, Father Luigi Giussani, founder of the Movement of Communion and Liberation and Enzo's close friend, wrote, "What most impressed me is that his adherence to Christ was so all-consuming that there was never a day when he would not seek out the human glory of Christ in every possible way." Enzo was an exceptionally admirable and kind-spirited human being. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who were a part of his vision for a better world. You, too, will feel touched by his story and will hopefully be inspired to lead a life of compassion, love, and generosity.

Luigi Giussani, born in 1922, is one of the most influential thinkers and leaders in the Catholic world today. He is the founder of the Catholic lay movement Communion and Liberation, now present in more than seventy countries worldwide, with a membership well in excess of 100,000. In addition, hundreds of thousands of people have come into contact with him through the charitable, cultural, and social works of his movement and through his writings. An Introduction to the Thought of Luigi Giussani presents Giussani's works to the English-speaking world through the multiple perspectives of thinkers with different backgrounds and intellectual motivations, showing the lively dialogue evoked by their encounter with his "generative thought" and inviting deeper engagement by readers. The various contributors make clear the relevance of Giussani's thought to the North American and Western cultural and religious context. They point to an important element in all of Giussani's work – his proposal that the Christian Event is the answer to the deepest and most pressing questions in today's world. With his clear and vigorous awareness of the cultural, philosophical, and theological issues central to the contemporary debate, Giussani succeeds in making the truth of the Catholic tradition both reasonable and relevant. Contributors include Lorenzo Albacete (Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico), Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires), Remi Brague (Université La Sorbonne, Paris), Carlo Caffarra (Archbishop of Ferrara-Comacchio), Ralph Del Colle (Marquette University), Ravan Farhâdi (United Nations), Giorgio Feliciani (Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Milan), Neil Gillman (Jewish Theological Seminary, NY), David J. Claiming Society For God written by Nancy J. Davis and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-30 with Social Science categories.

The nonviolent ways orthodox religious groups achieve social power and influence: a “brilliant” study of four movements in the US and abroad (Wendell Bell, Yale University). Gold Medal Winner, Independent Publisher Book Awards Claiming Society for God focuses on common strategies used by religiously orthodox (what some would call “fundamentalist”) movements around the world. Rather than using armed struggle or terrorism, as much of post-9/11 thinking suggests, these movements use a patient, under-the-radar strategy of taking over civil society. Claiming Society for God tells the stories of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the Sephardi Torah Guardians or Shas in Israel, Comunione e Liberazione in Italy, and the Salvation Army in the United States, showing how these movements, grounded in a communitarian theology, are building massive grassroots networks of religiously based social service agencies, hospitals and clinics, rotating credit societies, schools, charitable organizations, worship centers, and businesses. These networks are already being called states within states, surrogate states, or parallel societies, and in Egypt brought the Muslim Brotherhood to control of parliament and the presidency. This bottom-up, entrepreneurial strategy is aimed at making religion the cornerstone of society. “Sociology at its very best…professionally researched and analyzed, both pragmatic and theoretical, overwhelmingly convincing, and an important corrective to a lot of current beliefs…a great read—fascinating from beginning to end.”—Wendell Bell, Yale University, author of Foundations of Futures Studies

Leading figures and rising stars in the field present the first contribution explaining the transnational nature of the revolutionary violence of the New Left. Focusing on the processes of dissemination of ideologies and mobilization of ideas and repertoires of action among the revolutionary organizations of the New Left in Latin America, Europe, and the United States, this book contributes to our understanding of the dynamics of the New Left wave and, at the same time, helps explain the "why" of the emergence of very similar armed leftist groups in vastly different geographical and political contexts.
