What Mel Pender accomplished is phenomenal in the world of track." -Dr. John Carlos "Mel has a personality of his own...owns not only his footsteps, but everybody else's." -Dr. Tommy Smith "Mel...brought incredible credibility to Army Track..." -Mike Krzyzewski "Coach K" "Captain Pender was a symbol of hope for many young soldiers..." -Brigadier General Richard Dix The strong legs, and quick feet, attached to Melvin Pender's five-foot, five-inch frame, have taken him to first-place finishes as a world-class sprinter. His gift of speed reached a pinnacle when he won a Gold Medal as a member of the 4 x 100 relay team in the 1968 Mexico Olympics. The feat was accomplished while Army Captain Pender was a combat soldier who was pulled out of the fighting in Vietnam which was an unpopular war. The story of Pender's life will cause hearts to pound with joy, sadness, anger, and pride, as he chronicles his life's journey from childhood to pre-teen years idolizing the military and his decorated war hero, Audie Murphy, while growing up in two different impoverished and segregated worlds in the South. He was not limited by his surroundings, though, and found good and bad in them. Determination was etched into Pender's DNA, and he wanted to do something to make his family proud, and "be somebody!" His, is a story of the American Dream. He owns it, and he embraces it. He was scarred by the racial challenges of the 1950s and 1960s, but Pender found better angels, black and white, and kept his dream from becoming a racial nightmare. The United States Army and track propelled him into an historic figure. For some, Pender is the track world's "Black Knight," not because of his color, but because he befriended and helped others in his profession as a big brother, father-figure, and as a friend.

J Rgen Moltmann S Ethics Of Hope written by Timothy Harvie and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-06 with Religion categories.

This book develops a thorough account of the sphere of human moral action in sustained dialogue with Jürgen Moltmann. By examining God's role as promise-giver, particularly in the Christian understanding of resurrection, this work describes the occupancy of both history and space in moral terms. This leads to an understanding of Jesus' description of 'the kingdom of God' to feature prominently in describing both the possibility and content of human moral action. By offering an account of each of the main doctrines found in Moltmann's corpus - the role of the future, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and anthropology - this book locates how each contributes to the understanding of ethics from a Christian perspective and subsequently applies these findings to the contemporary issue of poverty and global economics.

This book traces the little-known history of an alternative school system erected in Canada by post-WWII Dutch Neo-Calvinist immigrants. In less than four decades, this community established a kindergarten to university education system that extended from Ottawa, Ontario to Victoria, BC. This remarkable tradition of education imagines the school as a dissident and transformational social institution. While this book offers the narrative of faith-based tradition of education, the author makes a strong case that educators from diverse ideological backgrounds, can learn important lessons from it about the implementation of an alternative educational vision, teacher-led curriculum reform and a self-formative pedagogy. To supplement this narrative, the author also provides a separate set of theoretical discussions on key issues in school reform, as well as, his memoir as an educator and curriculum designer within this tradition.

This book's focus on leadership and hope is very appropriate given today's climate of distrust that many find results in a sense of hopelessness in their current leaders. Individuals and organizations are desperate for leaders of hope. Many books on leadership point to the need for inner motivation, but that inner motivation must be hope in new possibilities for a changed future. It is hope that gives a meaningful expression to leadership and enables the leader to be creative in dealing with the present. More than anything else it is a vision of hope that can excite and empower leaders to inspire others to strive for a common vision. You can have faith in a vision, but it is only hope that keeps you working for it, for dedication to vision is only proved in hope. Today's world and its many manifestations in organizational life are crying out for a new dedication to the vocation of leadership. The greedy, the abusers, the power hungry, the selfish will always be with us. May there also always be those men and women who will give their lives to leadership in service for others and in dedication to a future for which we hope. The aim of this book is to invite the reader to think about what he or she hopes for in leadership and how to be faithful to those hopes. +
