La figura degli agenti a Roma per promuovere casi presso la Sede Apostolica è apparsa finora solo in pubblicazioni relative alla prima età moderna e moderna. Grazie ad esse sappiamo che rappresentavano gli interessi di diverse entità ecclesiastiche: diocesi, capitoli cattedrali, monasteri, priorati, chierici. Inoltre rispondevano agli interessi dei loro sovrani e trasmettevano a questi, come agli ecclesiastici di cui sopra, notizie dal centro della cristianità. Alcuni risiedevano stabilmente a Roma, altri vi rimanevano fino al compimento dell’incarico assegnatogli. Armati solitamente di una buona conoscenza del diritto canonico e di una certa fluenza in latino e italiano, nonché di ottime capacità retoriche, dovevano far passare il caso affidatogli attraverso il labirinto della burocrazia papale. Come è cambiato questo ruolo nel XVIII-XX secolo? Gli agenti hanno allora continuato ad avere una funzione cruciale nei rapporti con la Curia Romana, rappresentando gli interessi di comunità e personalità ecclesiastiche e raccogliendo informazioni per queste e per il proprio Stato, oppure il loro lavoro è diventato del tutto invisibile, ripetitivo e amministrativo? Hanno continuato a risiedere nella Città eterna oppure hanno agito da e in altre città pontificie. Inoltre l’attività romana o italiana è stata solo un episodio della loro biografia oppure hanno svolto regolarmente questa funzione, trasformandola in un vero e proprio lavoro trasmesso in famiglia per più generazioni? Qualcuno di loro è riuscito a costruirsi una carriera in patria o a Roma e ha utilizzato a tal scopo la rete di relazioni forgiate come agente? Questo secondo volume della ricerca italo-ungherese sugli agenti cerca di rispondere alle questioni delle righe precedenti e a definire l’attività degli agenti in Curia durante i secoli più recenti.

Questo volume contribuisce a dettagliare il quadro più generale degli studi sulla curia pontificia come uno dei principali centri della diplomazia europea durante i primi secoli dell’età moderna. Prosegue dunque la riflessione già avviata con Gli “angeli custodi” delle monarchie: i cardinali protettori delle nazioni (2018). Allo stesso tempo ribadisce l’incertezza riguardo a come incasellare attività, quali quelle degli agenti, soltanto in seguito formalizzate. Proprio per verificare tale sviluppo, al presente volume terrà dietro un secondo incentrato sulla evoluzione otto-novecentesca degli agenti presso la curia pontificia.

Der Abschlussband des deutsch-französischen ANR-DFG-Projekts MUSICI widmet sich der Musikermigration im Europa der Frühen Neuzeit mit einem kultur- und musikgeschichtlichen Blick auf Venedig, Rom und Neapel als Reiseziele und Wirkungsorte von Instrumentalisten, Sängern, Komponisten und Instrumentenbauern, die nicht von der italienischen Halbinsel stammten. Im Sinne einer "histoire croisée" werden Netzwerke, Integrations- und Austauschprozesse aufgedeckt, mit denen fremde Musiker zwischen musikalischem Alltag und herausragenden Festlichkeiten konfrontiert waren. Auf dieser Grundlage wird eine systematische Betrachtung der frühneuzeitlichen Musikermigration sowie eine Untersuchung musikalischer Stile jenseits nationaler Forschungstraditionen möglich.
