Si, perché l’autore Federico Cappellini, grande appassionato di tale genere, proprio da un gioco ha tratto spunto per la narrazione di questo ROMANZO FANTASY. Dal gioco alla fantasia, che diventa realtà… Dall’introduzione dell’Autore… Questo libro si ispira alla memorabile avventura di un gioco di ruolo. Siamo stati giocatori per lungo tempo, ci siamo immedesimati nei nostri personaggi mentre combattevano contro draghi, saccheggiavano tombe ed esploravano rovine abbandonate. Abbiamo impersonato chierici pii, rudi guerrieri ed astuti ladri. Giugurta, Azoral e Nargoth ci hanno accompagnato per ben cinque anni. L’idea di scrivere questo libro si ispira proprio a loro, e all’avventura che hanno vissuto. L’eccezionalità della trama e l’audacia con cui hanno affrontato determinate situazioni, con cui si sono dovuti misurare, sono alcuni dei fattori che mi hanno spinto seriamente a pensare di mettere per iscritto la loro storia, perché sarebbe stato un vero peccato che simili imprese, anche se soltanto nella fantasia di chi le ha vissute, fossero andate perdute. Dalla Prefazione di Daniele Corradi… Quello che state per leggere è il primo MONSTER FANTASY italiano. E lasciatemelo dire: era ora! Con “MONSTER FANTASY” intendo un romanzo fantastico in cui i mostri la fanno da padrone, di più: in cui i protagonisti stessi (tutti!) sono mostri. Quindi non dovrete più attraversare cento domestiche pagine di caverna hobbit prima di scorgere un Uomo Nero nel bosco; non dovrete guardarvi tremila puntate di GAME OF THRONES prima di veder spuntare un misero cucciolo di drago! (Beninteso: tutti amiamo Tolkien e Martin, ovvio). Il romanzo di Cappellini è mostruoso fin dall’inizio. E questo è il primo motivo per cui mi ha conquistato. “Balor: antico demone proveniente dalla dimensione esterna”: sono certo che questo semplice accostamento sintattico di parole provocherà un immediato, oscuro piacere nei lettori di FANTASY E HORROR, cresciuti a LOVECRAFT, HOWARD e TOLKIEN; tra le pagine di Cappellini potranno davvero infilare le mani nella materia di cui son fatti i mostri, oltre che i sogni… E che dire dei MIND FLAYER (sì, si scrive proprio così e non flyer; per i profani: trattasi di termine ad alto contenuto fantasy!), davvero ben rappresentati nel suo romanzo? Ora, cosa comporta questo alto tasso di mostruosità, per la visione del mondo che il romanzo di Cappellini ci presenta? Diciamolo con le parole di Azoral il lich: “I mortali non si rendono conto che il fiume delle loro parole è come il filo di sabbia di una clessidra che non si ferma mai. Ogni sillaba che pronunciano è un passo in più verso il vuoto”. Il secondo motivo per cui il romanzo ha conquistato me, e spero conquisterà anche voi, è che i suoi mostri sono veri personaggi: oltre ad essere coriacei, deformi, malvagi e pericolosissimi (ciascuno a suo modo), pensano, si incontrano, parlano tra di loro, scambiandosi idee ferocemente contrastanti; vivono imprese e avventure insieme, formano spesso una bizzarra squadra, una monster squad pronta a tutto, in primis a spaccare un bel po’ di umani fondoschiena. Intendiamoci, niente pipponi introspettivi; l’azione domina in tutto il testo, e fin dal suo sepolcrale inizio (o risveglio… vedrete perché) leggerete di confronti fisici e mentali, battaglie sanguinarie, efferati omicidi (e mostricidi? Scopritelo…). Vi basti l’esempio seguente: “Era stato raggiunto da tre frecce: al braccio destro, alla gamba e ad un fianco, ma nessuna delle tre gli aveva provocato qualche danno; in fondo era già morto.” L’ultimo ingrediente è, puro e semplice, il meraviglioso. La ricerca appassionata di creature e luoghi fantastici, trovati e narrati per il puro piacere di farlo. L’elemento che molti scrittori realisti spesso dimenticano: l’incanto di quel mago, necromante o stregone che è lo scrittore del fantastico, che sa spalancare gli occhi mentre racconta.
