Questo lavoro è rivolto allo studio della Cappella del Rosario e alla famiglia dei Consulmagno di Aquara. La ricerca effettuata nell’ambito della storia pittorica napoletana, non tanto a un tentativo di attribuzione, quanto ad un’identificazione delle influenze degli artisti. La prima parte tratta della storia di Santa Maria Maggiore, a partire dalla sua fondazione fino ad arrivare a tempi più recenti, passando attraverso gli avvenimenti storici di rilievo. Ho approfondito i vari culti mariani. Nella seconda parte si affronta la descrizione degli spazi architettonici, interni ed esterni la chiesa. La terza parte tratta della ricostruzione storica della Cappella del Rosario, e di tutti gli elementi in essa presenti. Gli altari, di cui ora rimangono solo le arcate, gli affreschi che ricoprono l’intera volta a botte, e la Tavola della Madonna del Rosario che padroneggia sul fondo della Cappella. In questa sezione vi sono i confronti artistici, e l’attribuzione della Madonna del Rosario non al 1579, come viene riportato in un noto testo storico, ma al 1575. Quarta e ultima parte affronta lo studio della Famiglia dei Consulmagno di Aquara, attivi in tutta l’area del Basso Cilento e degli Alburni, lasciando numerose opere sia pittoriche sia scultoree.
