Welcome to Global Voice magazine #21 – Out of the Tin Can This spring issue of the Council on Business & Society’s quarterly magazine contains 96 pages of research and opinion-based articles featured in two sections – Business, Society and Leadership & Management. We’re delighted to include a special double-page dedicated to two new CoBS Deans – Dean Lee Newman and Dean Yu Sakasume – having respectively taken up their functions at leading member institutions IE Business School, Spain, and Keio Business School, Japan. This issue’s Editorial also features a spotlight on the unique value case studies bring to the learning experience, co-authored by Richard McCracken, Director of The Case Centre, the world’s leading independent home of the case method, and Prof. Adrian Zicari of the Council on Business & Society. A wry and playful glance at business buzz words – and maybe even the state of our hectic modern society – is included in our double-page cartoon penned by Tom Gamble of the CoBS and illustrated by Matthieu Anziani of ESSEC Business School. And, as usual, hats off to the superb Global Voice graphic design by CoBS Head of Design Mélissa Guillou. Faculty, practitioner and student articles provide the bread and butter of this issue, with topics covering big data and customer value, how to manage remote working, designing mentorship programmes, TechForGood, greening up supply chains with circular economy strategy, non-financial social and environmental disclosure, and a spotlight on smart cities in Japan among others. And lastly, you may ask why this issue carries the subtitle Out of the Tin Can? The temptation is to say that it’s up to you to interpret it – for there are many interpretations possible! Some of these might point to the David Bowie classic, Space Oddity, and the fact that, at last, many of us in our societies are once again able to step out of the confinement imposed by the pandemic to breath freely again. Another interpretation, hand in hand with the snappy front cover image, might refer to Andy Warhol’s iconic pop art, consumerism or simply the tastiness of the contents the tin cans hold – a little like the insights in this magazine, if I dare say! And lastly, the shades of green to the cans give the message that our ‘consuming society’ might well contain a new – and more responsible, sustainable – taste to it. In any case, we hope you download this Global Voice #21 issue, open it up and consume its insights with immoderation! Enjoy your reading!

Transform Teaching And Learning Through Talk written by Amy Gaunt and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-28 with Education categories.

“Reading and writing float on a sea of talk” declared James Britton – and yet in our current education system, where the pressure is on for students to pass written exams, it is all too easily left adrift. How then, as teachers and educators, can we turn the tide and harness the power of talk in our classrooms? This is not just an educational choice but rather, given students’ vastly different experiences of language, a moral imperative. Amy Gaunt and Alice Stott’s must-read book serves as a detailed and engaging guide to get talking in class. It blends the academic research and evidence, with first-hand classroom experiences and practical strategies to enable you to unlock the power of oracy in your classroom and equip your students with the speaking skills they need to thrive in the twenty first century. Transform Teaching and Learning Through Talk describes how to: Identify and teach good talk (and listening!) Build a classroom culture which values talk Create meaningful and authentic contexts for oracy Support your quietest students to speak up too! This book is a rich resource for teachers, drawing upon key academic research and outlining what this could look like in your classroom. Throughout, the authors share personal insights, engaging anecdotes and tried-and-tested approaches drawn from their experience teaching in primary and secondary classrooms. Whether you teach college-age students or those just starting their journey through school, this book will challenge you to think deeply about what you can do integrate oracy into your practice.

Responsible Organizations In The Global Context written by Annie Bartoli and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-04 with Business & Economics categories.

This book aims to spur critical thought on the various dimensions and impacts of “responsibility” for organizations, including companies, institutions, and governments, while considering international differences and similarities, as well as global challenges. It analyzes to what extent responsibility is becoming a crucial issue for all kinds of organizations, examining both the intensifying pressures of international competition and the growing crisis of confidence towards some management concepts and practices. As more and more socio-economic and political systems are suspected of serving selfish interests instead of the public good, more accountable and integrated processes are appropriate in order to deal with the present and future stakes of our society. Further, with the development of digital technology and the use of data mining, new questions regarding responsibility require examination. This edited collection is a culmination of the international scientific conference "Responsible Organizations in the Global Context", co-organized by the CIED of Georgetown University (United States) and the Larequoi Research Center of the University of Versailles St-Quentin (France) in June 2017 in Washington DC. It will contribute to research and actions in the areas of social responsibility, business ethics, organizational excellence, sustainability, and cross-cultural management.

Welcome to the Council on Business & Society’s Global Voice magazine, autumn issue #23 – Back to the Future?! 108 pages of research-based features on responsible leadership and management practices, sustainability, marketing strategy, climate philanthropy and job markets. Made readable, made practical! We’re particularly proud of the autumn issue of Global magazine that we offer you on download from the 8 leading international business schools that make up the Council on Business & Society (CoBS) – an alliance dedicated to offering its students, corporates and the wider world the latest in cutting-edge research and practical insights in the fields of corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability and responsible business practices. The cover, Editorial by Prof. Adrian Zicari, and our traditional wry look at society via our double-page cartoon focus on what many have described as a long, hard winter of energy crisis ahead triggered by the tragic events Ukraine. The energy crisis which, for the older, European readers among us, echoes the energy crisis of the early 70s when many governments exhorted their populations to reduce consumption and seek innovative ways to keep away the winter cold. But although times may well turn out to be tougher, it is also an occasion to step back and learn, and perhaps for governments, business and citizens to accelerate the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources that will, as it turns out, not only benefit the planet in its efforts to assuage the climate crisis, but will also provide a degree of independence and freedom from those wishing to make energy a weapon of pressure and bargaining. 22 feature articles are included in this download in two sections: Management & Leadership and Business, Society, Planet. For the most part research-based, these articles explain deep analysis of business and society issues in a readable, engaging and often practical tone-of-voice. We hope they will offer you knowledge, understanding, food for further thought. We also hope that they set the spark for positive change – whether for your studies, business ventures, leadership, or mindset on how you view the world. Knowledge from the 8 CoBS schools with campuses in France, Singapore, Morocco, Brazil, China, Spain, Japan, South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom is highlighted that gives a unique, multi-dimensional, global yet local perspective on major issues today. Guest articles also appear in this magazine from Kenya, Canada, Denmark and from the ESG-Sustainability consulting firm Ksapa. In the Management & Leadership section, responsible leadership and responsible management education are topics, along with HR strategies, business ethics, foreign investment and job markets, corporate social responsibility and marketing strategy. Business, Society, Planet continues with spotlights on social entrepreneurship and crisis, gender-based violence, climate philanthropy, the importance of language learning, and how businesses can find opportunity and purpose in the UN decade of ecosystem restoration. For those wishing to go further, this issue also features pre-order links to the first in the Routledge-CoBS Focus on Responsible Business series of books – Responsible Finance & Accounting – as well as the opportunity to discover and apply for the various MBA and EMBA programmes of the CoBS schools across 10 countries and 4 continents. How can you use Global Voice? Well, principally, for quenching your thirst for knowledge and interest in how responsible business can benefit society! But for those of you who are students, perhaps these research-based insights can offer you a widened, deeper view on topics that your assignments deal with and that you can use and quote in your essays and dissertations, or put into practice during internships. For young managers to experienced CEOs, Global Voice can offer a fresh look on challenges in your industry sectors and ideas and triggers to help you make your career more meaningful, your company more sustainable. And lastly, for instructors – teachers, trainers, coaches, lecturers and higher education faculty – Global Voice offers you a wealth of content to use for classroom debate, flipped learning, insightful lectures and critical analysis.
