Winner of The Iranian World Prize for the Book of the Year 2007 in the Philosophy and Mysticism category. This new and original text provides a timely re-examination of Islamic thought, presenting a stark contrast to the more usual conservative view. The explanation of the relationship between God and humans, as portrayed in Islam, is often influenced by the images of God and of human beings which theologians, philosophers and mystics have in mind. The early period of Islam reveals a diversity of interpretations of this relationship. Elkaisy-Friemuth discusses the view of three scholars from the tenth and eleventh century: Abd al-Jabbar, Ibn Sina and Al-Ghazali, which introduce three different approaches of looking at the relationship between God and Humans. God and Humans in Islamic Thought attempts to shed light on an important side of medieval rational thought in demonstrating its significance in forming the basis of an understanding of the nature of God, the nature of human beings and the construction of different bridges between them.

The endeavour to prove God’s existence through rational argumentation was an integral part of classical Islamic theology (kalām) and philosophy (falsafa), thus the frequently articulated assumption in the academic literature. The Islamic discourse in question is then often compared to the discourse on arguments for God’s existence in the western tradition, not only in terms of its objectives but also in terms of the arguments used: Islamic thinkers, too, put forward arguments that have been labelled as cosmological, teleological, and ontological. This book, however, argues that arguments for God’s existence are absent from the theological and philosophical works of the classical Islamic era. This is not to say that the arguments encountered there are flawed arguments for God’s existence. Rather, it means that the arguments under consideration serve a different purpose than to prove that God exists. Through a close reading of the works of several mutakallimūn and falāsifa from the 3rd‒7th/9th‒13th century, such as al-Bāqillānī and Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī as well as Ibn Sīnā and Ibn Rushd, this book proffers a re-evaluation of the discourse in question, and it suggests what its participants sought to prove if it is not that God exists.

"The debate over Allah's attribute-the "nature" and the inner articulation of Allah-is one of the focal debates in the intellectual history of Islam. This edited collection aims to highlight and examine some aspects of this debate in their original context, based on the relevant primary literature. By showing that even an apparently self-evident concept such as Allah, which lies at the heart of every reading of Islam, is highly ambiguous and polysemous, the chapters also emphasise the plurality that has always existed in Islamic thought. Through highlighting the philosophical and theological reflections on the concept of Allah, the results of this study challenge the juristic reading of Islam, in which Allah's function consists mainly in providing a detailed plan for the human life and also rewarding or punishing the ones who deviates from it. The book also attempts to demonstrate the relevance and the actuality of the tradition and to stress its contemporaneity. This volume makes a significant part of the intellectual tradition of Islam accessible for students and scholars of Islamic theology, Islamic philosophy, Islamic studies and the like, as well as providing a secondary source for teaching on the debate in question"--

The Conclusive Argument from God is the master work of Shah Wali Allah of Delhi (1762), considered to be the most important Muslim thinker of pre-modern South Asia. This work, originally written in Arabic, represents a synthesis of the Islamic intellectual disciplines authoritative in the eighteenth century. In order to argue for the rational, ethical and spiritual basis for the implementation of the hadith injunctions of the Prophet Muhammad, Shah Wali Allah develops a cohesive schema of the metaphysical, psychological, and social knowledge of his time. This work provides an extensive and detailed picture of Muslim theology and interpretive strategies on the eve of the modern period and is still evoked by numerous contemporary Islamic movements.

Humans are comprised of a body and a soul, yet most of them take care of their bodies and forget about their souls. This book wakes them up, the author hopes, and provides them with a dose of spirituality which they may never have had before. This book is written for everyone, and its stories will appeal to many, if not most, people who will find in them beauty and universality: There is One God, one human family started by Adam and Eve, one truth, one heaven, one hell, one right and one wrong... and one religion. Call any of these by any name, it does not matter, for calling a rose by any other name does not change its beauty, hue, aroma or anything else. So is the case particularly with God whom the Muslims prefer to call “All¡h” for reasons which the book explains. This Volume discusses the “99 Attributes of All¡h” or how Muslims view their Creator. Knowing a maker is done by knowing what he makes. It discusses not only prominent figures but other beings as well: jinns (or genies), angels, demons, etc. It narrates interesting tales about a number of God’s prophets and messengers such as Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon and Jesus Christ, peace with them all and many, many salutations.

"ALLAH"... A very vastly discussed subject, addressed almost daily by people around us yet can anyone claim that we know Him completely? We debate too much about the Creator but do we really know the Islamic God? Almost everyone comments about Him in daily life but is HE what we think He is, this book in itself is blasphemous for some, but if He has given us Hints why can't we take it to reach Him, Allah tells us to search for Him. Where should we search for Him? What tools and equipment do we need to find Allah? This is the most unusual book which answers the most fundamental questions because He is so apparent yet so hidden. In this book the author has tried to put bits and pieces together to answer these questions like -How do we know Allah exists? Is He really the perfect God as the Muslims claim?-They say He loves us but if He really does, why does He punish us, He created Hell to torture us? What is the logic behind trial and tests? Why has He tested the best of best i.e. Prophets and Sufis, now why is He testing us?-What if I want to see Him and talk to Him? Can we see Him; have any Prophet or Sufi talked to Him before? Can we be friends with Him? -Why do people wonder in deserts or forests in search of Him and what makes them certain that by doing so they will reach Him? How many people have seen Him till now? -Why is it that the sufferer called "God is dead" and He is out there observing quietly, why is He letting calamities befall upon us? Why there is so much injustice in this world yet the sinners are privileged as compare to the one who obeys Him.-And finally the most important question answered in this book is "How does He looks like"? -Hence the Islamic philosophy of God is tackled in a very different way in this book-Some of these questions are actually considered logical fallacy and are considered offensive by its nature, not allowed to ask by Muslims scholars but We as Humans have a strong urge to look and to yearn for the Creator, contemplation over God if forbidden but who decides it ? Who gave them the authority to do so? Accurately knowing Allah is the pillar whereupon Islam in its entirety hinges. Without such knowledge, any action in Islam does not have any real value whatsoever: it has neither essence nor value. Hence it is important to gain such knowledge. We all read so many books on different subjects yet we are unaware of the most important subject, this book will clarify all the Questions and try to answer these Questions from different aspects.

Human Self written by Athar Saeed Naqvi, PhD and has been published by Balboa Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-20 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Unlike most theories of the human self that are generally based on conjecture, this book describes a new scientific theory of the human self and its states of consciousness. This theory is formulated using the revealed knowledge found in the Holy Scriptures along with the principles of physics. In a quest for the ultimate truth, the book attempts to understand the relationship between man and his Creator. Dr. Naqvi describes the universal principle of complementarity of creation that shows that the world of matter is not mutually exclusive to the spirit world, but both are complementary to each other. The three major holy scriptures of monotheistic faith describe the human spirit as a breath from the spirit of God. It is termed divine spark in man. The book explains that the divine spark is a seed of divine attributes of truth, goodness, compassion, and justice. A major outcome of this notion is that all humans are equal members of the family of God, irrespective of race, color, or creed and deserving mutual respect and compassion. Questions are answered about the origin of human spirit, purpose of human creation, spirit-matter interaction, and the basis of ethics. Findings of prominent neurosurgeons show that the spirit (soul) is an autonomous entity that can exist without a physical vehicle, which takes the inquisitive reader into a mind-blowing conclusion. This book is a response to the growing need among academics and thinking masses for scientific explanations of spirituality, psychology, philosophy, mysticism, religion, and paranormal phenomena. Over the past twenty-five years, the author has presented the theory in various universities in psychology and theology departments globally. This book may serve as course material for university-level psychology, philosophy, and theology departments. In brief, the unique theory presented in this book can be described as the science of spirituality.
