Now available in English for the first time, a controversial work that indicts the Vatican for its actions before and during World War II. In the decade preceding the outbreak of World War II, the Vatican made a devil's bargain with fascist leaders. Anticipating that their regimes would eliminate a common enemy--namely Marxist-Leninist communism--two popes essentially collaborated with Hitler, Mussolini, and the fascist dictators in Spain (Franco) and Croatia (Pavelić). This is the damning indictment of this well-researched polemic, which for almost five decades in Germany has sparked controversy, outrage, and furious debate. Now it is available in English for the first time. Many will dismiss Deschner--who himself was raised and educated in a pious Catholic tradition--as someone who is obsessed with exposing the failings of the church of his upbringing. But he has marshaled so many facts and presented them with such painstaking care that his accusations cannot easily be ignored. The sheer weight of the evidence that he has brought together in this book raises a host of questions about a powerful institution that continues to exercise political influence to this day.

Twenty-five years ago, when Pat Robertson and other radio and televangelists first spoke of the United States becoming a Christian nation that would build a global Christian empire, it was hard to take such hyperbolic rhetoric seriously. Today, such language no longer sounds like hyperbole but poses, instead, a very real threat to our freedom and our way of life. In American Fascists, Chris Hedges, veteran journalist and author of the National Book Award finalist War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, challenges the Christian Right's religious legitimacy and argues that at its core it is a mass movement fueled by unbridled nationalism and a hatred for the open society. Hedges, who grew up in rural parishes in upstate New York where his father was a Presbyterian pastor, attacks the movement as someone steeped in the Bible and Christian tradition. He points to the hundreds of senators and members of Congress who have earned between 80 and 100 percent approval ratings from the three most influential Christian Right advocacy groups as one of many signs that the movement is burrowing deep inside the American government to subvert it. The movement's call to dismantle the wall between church and state and the intolerance it preaches against all who do not conform to its warped vision of a Christian America are pumped into tens of millions of American homes through Christian television and radio stations, as well as reinforced through the curriculum in Christian schools. The movement's yearning for apocalyptic violence and its assault on dispassionate, intellectual inquiry are laying the foundation for a new, frightening America. American Fascists, which includes interviews and coverage of events such as pro-life rallies and weeklong classes on conversion techniques, examines the movement's origins, its driving motivations and its dark ideological underpinnings. Hedges argues that the movement currently resembles the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and '30s, movements that often masked the full extent of their drive for totalitarianism and were willing to make concessions until they achieved unrivaled power. The Christian Right, like these early fascist movements, does not openly call for dictatorship, nor does it use physical violence to suppress opposition. In short, the movement is not yet revolutionary. But the ideological architecture of a Christian fascism is being cemented in place. The movement has roused its followers to a fever pitch of despair and fury. All it will take, Hedges writes, is one more national crisis on the order of September 11 for the Christian Right to make a concerted drive to destroy American democracy. The movement awaits a crisis. At that moment they will reveal themselves for what they truly are -- the American heirs to fascism. Hedges issues a potent, impassioned warning. We face an imminent threat. His book reminds us of the dangers liberal, democratic societies face when they tolerate the intolerant.

America Fascism And God written by Davidson Loehr and has been published by Chelsea Green Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Capitalism categories.

Religion and politics have always been a potent mix. History is littered with times when that combination caused sweeping death and destruction, when it fueled aggression and oppression—and when it gave fascism a religious and diplomatic face. Reverend Davidson Loehr is afraid that we may be living in such a time in America today. On the Sunday following the election on November 2, 2004, Loehr, a liberal minister in Texas, delivered a sermon titled “Living Under Fascism”—a sermon that spread like wildfire through the Internet. “I mean to persuade you that the style of governing into which America has slid is most accurately described as fascism, and that the necessary implications of this fact are rightly regarded as terrifying,” the preacher told his congregation. “. . . and even if I don’t persuade you, I hope to raise the level of your thinking about who and where we are now.” In this series of incisive and inspired sermons, Loehr takes aim at the unholy alliance of corporate money, political power, and religious fundamentalism that is threatening both our political and our economic democracy. But Loehr’s words provide little comfort to liberals and progressives who have stubbornly clung to a radical individualism and an amoral secularism. America, Fascism, and Godis a call—first to understand that religion has been hijacked and debased. And then to take it back.

In Fascists in Christian Clothing, the sequel to Is America Nuts?, Dr. Stanley Warlib is back, and he's discovered a melding of evangelical Christians, Moonies, and Conservatives to bring about a fascist state right here in the United States. Banding together in a web of interlocking and interconnected organizations, these architects of American society believe that America is a cesspool and that salvation lies in taking back America for Christ. Three things stand in the way of ushering in the Kingdom of God to America: liberals, black-robed judges, and the secular government. Dr. Warlib, suffering from the rare delusional disorder folie à deux, uses a radio show, to reveal to listeners that all roads of this Fascist conspiracy lead to the Council on National Policy (CNP). CNP members control corporations involved in print, television, and radio that relentlessly propagandize against the evils of liberals, the judiciary, and the secular government. Dr. Warlib faces the disturbing realization that the vast right-wing conspiracy is following Hitler's Fascist model and is indoctrinating the American electorate to accept the Fascist state through Christianity. Victory for the Council seems to be in hand until Dr. Warlib intervenes and attempts to separate the Fascist head from the evangelical body.

Is God A Racist written by Stanley R. Barrett and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Political Science categories.

An anthropological study, based on racist publications, archival material, and interviews with leaders and members of Canadian right-wing organizations. Argues that despite Canada's reputation for tolerance, racism is institutionalized and widespread. Emphasizes the religious basis of racism: the belief that Christianity condemns Blacks to inferiority and identifies Jews with the devil. Distinguishes between the radical right, committed racists and antisemites prepared to use violence, and the less violent but extremely conservative "fringe right". Gives a detailed account of the growth of right-wing organizations from the 1920s through the fascist and Nazi organizations (especially in Quebec) of the 1930s, and the revival since the 1960s. Focuses on the Edmund Burke Society, the Western Guard, the Nationalist Party, and the Ku Klux Klan. Discusses, also, the trials of Ernst Zundel and Jim Keegstra for inciting to racial hatred, the fight against racism, attitudes of the Black and Jewish communities, and prospects for government action.

Ideas Have Consequences written by Richard M. Weaver and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-04 with Philosophy categories.

A foundational text of the modern conservative movement, this 1948 philosophical treatise argues the decline of Western civilization and offers a remedy. Originally published in 1948, at the height of post–World War II optimism and confidence in collective security, Ideas Have Consequences uses “words hard as cannonballs” to present an unsparing diagnosis of the ills of the modern age. Widely read and debated at the time of its first publication, the book is now seen as one of the foundational texts of the modern conservative movement. In its pages, Richard M. Weaver argues that the decline of Western civilization resulted from the rising acceptance of relativism over absolute reality. In spite of increased knowledge, this retreat from the realist intellectual tradition has weakened the Western capacity to reason, with catastrophic consequences for social order and individual rights. But Weaver also offers a realistic remedy. These difficulties are the product not of necessity, but of intelligent choice. And, today, as decades ago, the remedy lies in the renewed acceptance of absolute reality and the recognition that ideas—like actions—have consequences. This expanded edition of the classic work contains a foreword by New Criterion editor Roger Kimball that offers insight into the rich intellectual and historical contexts of Weaver and his work and an afterword by Ted J. Smith III that relates the remarkable story of the book’s writing and publication. Praise for Ideas Have Consequences “A profound diagnosis of the sickness of our culture.” —Reinhold Niebuhr “Brilliantly written, daring, and radical. . . . It will shock, and philosophical shock is the beginning of wisdom.” —Paul Tillich “This deeply prophetic book not only launched the renaissance of philosophical conservatism in this country, but in the process gave us an armory of insights into the diseases besetting the national community that is as timely today as when it first appeared. [This] is one of the few authentic classics in the American political tradition.” —Robert Nisbet
