How God Becomes Real written by T.M. Luhrmann and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-27 with Religion categories.

The hard work required to make God real, how it changes the people who do it, and why it helps explain the enduring power of faith How do gods and spirits come to feel vividly real to people—as if they were standing right next to them? Humans tend to see supernatural agents everywhere, as the cognitive science of religion has shown. But it isn’t easy to maintain a sense that there are invisible spirits who care about you. In How God Becomes Real, acclaimed anthropologist and scholar of religion T. M. Luhrmann argues that people must work incredibly hard to make gods real and that this effort—by changing the people who do it and giving them the benefits they seek from invisible others—helps to explain the enduring power of faith. Drawing on ethnographic studies of evangelical Christians, pagans, magicians, Zoroastrians, Black Catholics, Santeria initiates, and newly orthodox Jews, Luhrmann notes that none of these people behave as if gods and spirits are simply there. Rather, these worshippers make strenuous efforts to create a world in which invisible others matter and can become intensely present and real. The faithful accomplish this through detailed stories, absorption, the cultivation of inner senses, belief in a porous mind, strong sensory experiences, prayer, and other practices. Along the way, Luhrmann shows why faith is harder than belief, why prayer is a metacognitive activity like therapy, why becoming religious is like getting engrossed in a book, and much more. A fascinating account of why religious practices are more powerful than religious beliefs, How God Becomes Real suggests that faith is resilient not because it provides intuitions about gods and spirits—but because it changes the faithful in profound ways.

Author Jeff Rathai is a self-proclaimed skeptic and logical thinker who resisted Gods advances into his life for years. God had always been a distant, silent partnerto be feared and obeyed but certainly not loved. Personal tragedy drove Jeff even further away. When the supernatural reality of Holy Spirit began to intervene in his life, however, his eyes were opened to a whole new side of God. He suddenly saw questions and events from the past in a new light, and new paths began to open for him. The spiritual gifts available through Holy Spirit became an everyday reality, as Jeff frequently found himself in the middle of God-coordinated situations just ripe for the application of these newfound spiritual weapons. Everyday God focuses on Gods presence in all aspects of our everyday life. Jeff shares spiritual keys and weapons that each and every one of us has at our disposal to help us through our daily struggles, along with an honest look at his own spiritual struggles along the way. Above all, he encourages us to pursue our own personal relationship with God, or to take our current relationship to the next level with a very real, and sometimes humorous, God. If you have ever questioned Gods timing, decisions, or very existence, this book is for you!

God Is Real written by Roy Davidson and has been published by Charisma Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

"God is real and He will take care of you." That's what Roy Davidson's grandpa used to tell him. It was a simple statement that has had a profound effect on the author's life. By the time he was out of college, Roy had survived a forty-foot fall from a tree and walked away unhurt from a fifty-mile-per-hour collision with a tractor-trailer after the truck suddenly dematerialized before Roy's eyes. Though Roy had never attended a church service or picked up a Bible, he says that experiencing these miracles left him with "this indescribable 'knowing' feeling, not just in my mind but in my whole being, that God was real, no matter what anyone else said." That feeling would follow him for many years, until he learned the source of it and made a commitment to spend his life serving God. The miracles and healings Roy has experienced offer a compelling testimony of the power of simple, childlike faith and God's desire to pursue our hearts. His account of the supernatural in his life does not indicate that he is anything special, the author says. Instead, the compelling stories you will read in this book should inspire you to believe that, however imperfect or skeptical you may be, God sees you and wants to make Himself real to you. Its essential to uncover the current malady affecting the organized Christian Church today, not its structuring and not necessarily its organizational approach, but present to it His solution, which has never been hidden or even veiled in His Word, which is that we must return to the true roots of Christianity, which is founded on the individual discipleship of each member of His body, just as Jesus designed it and modeled it for us while He ministered on this earth. It passed the acid test of resiliency when it was mercilessly persecuted, as its disciples applied the principles as instituted and instructed by our Lord for all of us to display and to do. I encourage anyone to do a Bible search for the word disciple and believer and see firsthand that these words are not interchangeable or used in the same context when referring to a specific person whos known to be committed to our Lord, versus referring to a generalization in the third person to someone or a group whos aware about the existence of the real living God. Gods remedy its still available today to anyone who truly desires to attain it and can decipher that its only through discipleship that a true believer is infected with the enthusiasm, zeal, and eagerness in the commitment to fulfill John 8:31 and Matthew 28:19, reaching to those around them who thirst and hunger for the things of God, and in that process, experience the life He promises we can live now. Its time to abandon, once and for all, the current practices of mass-producing supporters, and inscribe it into our minds that the Great Commission was not to make believers but to make disciples. The early church didn't churn out cheerleaders and advocates but bona fide disciples, taught and equipped according to Ephesians 6:1017, who then, as members of the body of Christ, led by example, transforming them into a formidable, most powerful and effective force the Roman Empire had ever seen. Again, I want to reiterate that I am not against the church, as organized by the apostles, but want to revolutionize it, where discipleship is the top priority and purpose for its existence. I am critical of the current organized version that has taken the place of the real church, that nowadays is wasting vast resources and investing them in huge entertainment amphitheaters, and often dilute, distort, and obscure the true message and method to attain this new life established by our Lord. Unless this change happens, we cant truly reach and change a lost world. Our Real Life in Christ seeks to help those who are experiencing that gnawing sensation that there is much more to Gods Word than what is being offered by those weekly sermons in churches today.

For many Christians, words like 'theology' and 'doctrine' taste dusty in our mouths: we don't immediately see how they're relevant to our daily life. But good theology should be thrilling: it tells us about our creator, sustainer, and redeemer and what it means to live in his world. That's what this course aims to do: it's serious theology, simply expressed, and concretely applied to help 'ordinary Christians' better love God, his people, and his world. The course is framed by an opening chapter on the gospel. It goes on to explore the Trinity, the person and work of Christ and of the Spirit, the Bible, creation, church, end times, and discipleship. Each chapter includes additional resources, including a primary source from church history and a hymn or song of praise.Contents1. Family as mission-field and mission-base2-3. Marriage: what it is4.
