God Is Not a Bully: A Not-So-Churchy Memoir, addresses bullying in the spiritual realm like no book has before. Against the backdrop of growing up as a one-day stage performer, musician and educator, is the author's experience of identifying and overcoming various bullies, whether they be individuals or institutions, and the consequential acceptance of a broader spirituality. The memoir encompasses the innocence and curiosity we all have about who we are, why the world is, our part in it-an innocence that gets slowly eaten away by people and institutions who tell us we are less than we should be-and how we can learn to return to that innocence as an adult. From Southern Baptist Christianity to liturgical Episcopalianism, Celtic spirituality to Shamanic ritual, the author playfully hitchhikes through the worlds of family, institution, and self in search of a deeper calling from the Divine.

Have you ever been bullied? Well, it is not a pleasant experience. You could be bullied by someone you know or by a stranger. And this bully may hurt you by saying mean words or by hurting you physically when this bully hits you or pushes you down. Today, our story begins with a boy who is in kindergarten, and he is playing outside during recess. His name is Zane. And Zane is usually a happy five-year-old boy. But today, another boy has taken Zane's toy and has pushed him down hard on the ground. Zane can't believe what has just happened to him. A stranger has just hurt him. He doesn't know what to do. But then it is the end of recess (playtime outside), and Zane returns to his kindergarten classroom. Next, he rides his bus to the aftercare childcare where he decides to tell his teacher what happened on recess today. His teacher, Ms. Diane, reminds Zane of his faith and belief in Jesus. She tells him that he had been bullied today. She also tells him how someone was also bullied over two thousand years ago. Jesus was hurt much worse because a group of mean people didn't believe Jesus was telling the truth when he announced that he was God's Son. They thought he was lying to them. Ms. Diane reminds Zane of the importance of prayer. They pray together for safety and protection for Zane, and they also pray for this unknown bully. The name of this boy doesn't matter because our Heavenly Father knows him. This bully may live in an unsafe home where he has learned or seen someone mistreated. So they also pray for this bully. After praying, Zane begins to giggle. Ms. Diane asks Zane what has made him laugh. Read along to the end to find out why Zane is giggling and no longer sad. Remember, if you have been bullied, it is important to tell an adult, an older person who will listen, because maybe that bully needs help too.

Critics outside the church often accuse the Old Testament God of genocide, racism, ethnic cleansing, and violence. But a rising tide of critics within the church claim that Moses and other "primitive," violence-prone prophets were mistaken about God's commands and character. Both sets of critics dismiss this allegedly harsh, flawed, "textual" Old Testament God in favor of the kind, compassionate, "actual" God revealed by Jesus. Are they right to do so? Following his popular book Is God a Moral Monster?, noted apologist Paul Copan confronts false, imbalanced teaching that is confusing and misleading many Christians. Copan takes on some of the most difficult Old Testament challenges and places them in their larger historical and theological contexts. He explores the kindness, patience, and compassion of God in the Old Testament and shows how Jesus in the New Testament reveals not only divine kindness but also divine severity. The book includes a detailed Scripture index of difficult and controversial passages and is helpful for anyone interested in understanding the flaws in these emerging claims that are creating a destructive gap between the Testaments.

The Bully Versus the Prophet is a book about my nephew who from the moment he entered into the world had to face many challenges due to his small stature. He was constantly being bullied at school and after repeatedly being bullied, his dad gave him defense lessons. After summer break, Klyn and his family moved, and he had to go to a new school. Klyn found himself being bullied again. While trying to stay on the right path by reading his Bible on his lunch hours, instead of eating, he was forced to use the Word of God to fight off and to get rid of the bully. In the end, Klyn became fed up. He knew by him being a child of God that the words of God were his only defense against the bully. He knew at the age of seven how powerful words were. When the bully left him no other choice because it appeared the bully wasn’t going to stop bullying him, he used the scripture from Psalms, chapter 105, verse 15: “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” The next thing Klyn knew, the bully at his new school was permanently kicked out. Klyn overcame his bullying, and you can too. There is zero tolerance for bullying. So let’s all stand up against bullies and end the bullying. No one deserves to be treated unfairly. While bullying is no laughing matter, it’s real and it’s happening every day. Bullies are big monsters that like to pick on people smaller than them because that makes them feel powerful. If you know of anyone being bullied, don’t be afraid to speak up. Let someone, an adult or anyone in higher authority, know and never try to face or take the bully alone. It’s not fun being picked on or to pick on anyone.

How do I access this abundant life through Christ? I have observed many believers through the years live life broken, defeated, and void of the promises of God. I could not understand why promises were not fulfilled, dreams were not actualized, prophet- ic decrees and declarations spoken over them had not manifested. As I grew in my own faith walk with the Lord, I later came to understand spiritual matters and that the enemy is very cunning and strategic to stop believers from living the abundant life that Jesus mentions in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Where was this abundant life and why were there so many defeated believers?" My question was: how do I access this abundant life through Christ? Jesus's arrival on Earth was to defeat death, hell, and the grave. The coming of Christ was the catalyst by which heaven bruised Satan's head and the authority lost in the garden was restored back to man through Christ and salvation. Satan is a defeated foe, and believers must not be ignorant of his devices. This book highlights the many ways that the enemy of our souls attempts to bully believers out of the abundant life that belongs to us through Christ. It is available, and God wants you to abide in it! Lodged within this book are practical strategies on how to take back your authority which has been granted to all believers through Christ. As you read this book, may your faith increase, and the eyes of your understanding be enlightened.

Is the world better off without Christianity? Combining narrative with keen critique of contemporary debates, author and historian John Dickson gives an honest account of 2,000 years of Christian history that helps us understand what Christianity is and what it's meant to be. To say that the Christian Church has an "image problem" doesn't quite capture it. From the Crusades and the Inquisition to the racism and abuse present in today's Church--both in Catholic and Protestant traditions--the institution that Christ established on earth has a lot to answer for. But the Church has also had moments throughout history when it has been in tune with Jesus' teachings--from the rise of charity to the invention of hospitals. For defenders of the faith, it's important to be able to recognize the good and bad in the church's history and be inspired to live aligned with Christ. For skeptics, this book is a thought-provoking introduction to the idea that Christianity is, despite all, an essential foundation of our civilization. Bullies and Saints will take you on a big-picture journey from the Sermon on the Mount to the modern church: Giving contextual accounts of infamous chapters of Christian history, such as the Crusades, and acknowledging their darkness. Outlining the great movements of the faith and defending its heroes and saints, some of whom are not commonly recognized. Examining the Church beside the teachings and life of Jesus and how it has succeeded in its mission to imitate Christ.

Are you malnourished? Have spiritual assaults left you feeling impoverished, empty? You are not alone. Tell That Bully, NO! The Overcomer’s Handbook helps the reader fortify their faith. The book offers insights to the truth of the gospel that exposes and stops our adversary and defeats him on any battlefield. Obedience to the Word of God generates spiritual opposition. Our faith will be tested by fire. There is no need for alarm. Jesus Christ has overcome the world. The afflictions we experience as believers—cunning maneuvers of the enemy—can make us feel defeated to defraud us of God’s promises. Entrance into the kingdom of God demands endurance—a soldier’s endurance. There were days at work when it seemed impossible for me to focus. These experiences have taught me not to become alarmed or frustrated with myself. Satan, the bully, is the source of confusion, not my inadequacies. The Devil and his cohorts intend to make us view everything from an earthly perspective, and not from an eternal, heavenly perspective (Colossians 3:2). We must not be ignorant of the enemy’s subtle persuasions. The accuser speaks nothing but lies to influence us to disobey God’s will, to surrender the battle, to crush our confidence in God’s Word. These offensive strikes are his attempts to manipulate our thoughts and emotions to compel us to yield to our personal desires—our comfort zone—and forsake faith. One day the Holy Spirit whispered to my spirit—It is easy to live by what you see and how you feel. God is asking you to live by what you hear—Our heavenly Father is faithful to fulfill His Word and His promises spoken to us through the Holy Spirit. If we abide in Christ, our lives will bear fruit.

Can young Chic, a lost gecko, successfully complete his epic journey home to the safety of the family he loves or will he run into bullies of the forest who need to be stopped? Throughout his journey, Chic meets animals who bully other animals. Though unsure of his own inner strength, Chic prays to God for strength and draws upon that given strength to discover not only that he is able to help and protect others, but that he is never alone when he walks God's path. Over 4,400 children die annually due to bullying. Seventy-seven percent of all students are bullied and 14% of this 77% experience a sever reaction from the bullying done to them. How can we sit back and not try to help those that need our help. I wrote this book to give young Chic a voice, a voice that will reach others and help fight the bullying and hate that is happening to our world. As a boy I stood by and watched a young man be brutally bullied by the children in our Jr. High School. Although I did not participate in the bullying, I did something much worse....I stood by and did nothing to help him. I write this book today 40 years later to finally take an action on something that I did not have the courage to face as a 12 year old boy. This book is based on a prayer that I say over my boys every night. A prayer that I know has created an inner strength in them to fight the bullies in their world. I hope that it helps you and your children.

What words come to mind when we think of God? Merciful? Just? Compassionate? Delving deep into the Bible, former evangelical preacher Dan Barker uncovers God's negative qualities: jealous, petty, unforgiving, bloodthirsty, vindictive--and worse! Witty and well researched, this unique atheist book explains exactly why the Scripture shouldn't govern our everyday lives. It makes a powerful argument for the separation of church and state.
