This is the meaning of suffering, which is truly supernatural and at the same time human. It is supernatural because it is rooted in the divine mystery of the Redemption of the world, and it is likewise deeply human, because in it the person discovers himself, his own humanity, his own dignity, his own mission.Suffering is certainly part of the mystery of man. Perhaps suffering is not wrapped up as much as man is by this mystery, which is an especially impenetrable one. The Second Vatican Council expressed this truth that "...only in the mystery of the Incarnate Word does the mystery of man take on light. In fact..., Christ, the final Adam, by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and his love, fully reveals man to himself and makes his supreme calling clear". If these words refer to everything that concerns the mystery of man, then they certainly refer in a very special way to human suffering. Precisely at this point the "revealing of man to himself and making his supreme vocation clear" is particularly indispensable. It also happens as experience proves-that this can be particularly dramatic. But when it is completely accomplished and becomes the light of human life, it is particularly blessed. "Through Christ and in Christ, the riddles of sorrow and death grow meaningful".The mystery of the Redemption of the world is in an amazing way rooted in suffering, and this suffering in turn finds in the mystery of the Redemption its supreme and surest point of reference. We wish to live everyday of our life in special union with all those who suffer. And so there should come together in spirit beneath the Cross on Calvary all suffering people who believe in Christ, and particularly those who suffer because of their faith in him who is the Crucified and Risen One, so that the offering of their sufferings may hasten the fulfilment of the prayer of the Saviour himself that all may be one. Let there also gather beneath the Cross all people of good will, for on this Cross is the "Redeemer of man", the Man of Sorrows, who has taken upon himself the physical and moral sufferings of the people of all times, so that in love they may find the salvific meaning of their sorrow and valid answers to all of their questions.Together with Mary, Mother of Christ, who stood beneath the Cross,we pause beside all the crosses of contemporary man.And I ask all you who suffer to support us. I ask precisely you who are weak to become a source of strength for the Church and humanity. In the terrible battle between the forces of good and evil, revealed to our eyes by our modern world, may your suffering in union with the Cross of Christ be victorious!

Everyone suffers, and many people question the goodness of a God who allows such pain and sorrow in His creation. But God intends for our suffering to draw us closer to Him to receive His redemption, as it reveals the weaknesses of our own flesh and the condition of our heart, causing us to cry out to our loving and eternal God. All suffering is a result of the fall in the Garden of Eden, but Jesus gave His life so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. He alone can deliver us from suffering and save our souls from hell. In The Virtues of Suffering..., the trials and pains of this world are acknowledged and embraced for the blessings they bring to the lives of believers. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:17: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Jesus also suffered willingly, knowing the good fruit it would produce: “... who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame ...” (Hebrews 12:2). For both believers and skeptics who are struggling with suffering and loss, and questioning the benevolence of God, The Virtues of Suffering will shine a light of hope and promise as readers lean into the Word of God and His great love for all people.

Most of us puzzle all our lives over suffering. ‘Why should this happen to me?’ ‘Why should that happen to someone whom I love?’ ‘Is God out to punish me?’ ‘What have I done to deserve this?’ The problem of suffering and evil tortures the human mind. Each of us develops our little philosophy of suffering. ‘I deserved it’ ‘God punishes those he loves’ ‘Darkness is the shadow of God’s outstretched hand’ etc.. From the beginning, we can presume, humankind puzzled over the things that went wrong – injury, death, famine… Only when we meet God face to face will our complaints and queries be fully set at rest. In the meantime, we can be comforted – and comfort others – by the glow of light that the Christian tradition offers. On a dark night, even a small candle is a help until the big light is switched on. Divine light shines in the darkness of suffering, which the darkness cannot overcome.

""Suffering and God's Redemptive Love"" resulted from conversations Dr. Jones had with his wife during her final painful days of dying from cancer. Through the Bible, they were able to find redemption in the midst of the suffering. Jones emphasizes the Jewish-Christian theme of Immanuel-God with us-the Christian theme of incarnation. Jones brings out the grand narratives of the biblical literature focusing on personal suffering and God's engagement with us in our suffering to deal with: the common conceptions of why people suffer; how Job shatters those views; the way in which God comes to us, suffers with us, suffers for us, and takes us beyond suffering. The final chapter deals with God's Redemptive Love and Ministry to the Suffering seeking to give practical application of the themes of the book. Jones added an Epilogue dealing with suffering communities based on his engagement with persons living in extreme poverty in Mexico and Colombia growing out of the testimonies of the people.

Suffering is one of the most challenging and inescapable mysteries of life even for the innocent. Thinkers have long been vexed by the idea that a good God permits suffering, and it has been a stumbling block for many souls striving to live lives of faith. But what if we've been looking at suffering improperly all this time? What if, instead of serving as evidence against God, suffering represented the very proof of a loving God? In this transformative and enlightening book, Dr. Paul Chaloux adjunct professor of theology at the Catholic University of America demonstrates that suffering is not retribution from an angry, vengeful God but the saving action of a loving God who directs us away from evil and toward eternal joy in Heaven. Educated in his own school of suffering, Dr. Chaloux explains the four tasks of suffering that are essential in the economy of salvation and why, if suffering were t

Humans have long searched for an adequate answer to an age-old question: If God is good, why do we suffer? An entire book of the Bible, Job, is dedicated to the problem of God and human suffering. Theologians across continents and centuries have debated the intricacies, inconsistencies, and assumptions the question elicits. And of course, many have turned to Jesus's own suffering, and his horrible death at the cross, in search of understanding. All too often, the resulting approaches to the mystery of suffering, though linked to the Jewish and Christian Scriptures and traditions, fail to satisfy contemporary hearts and minds. The Mystery of God and Suffering draws guidance from the Gospel of John and the letters to the Colossians and the Ephesians, and focuses on God's overflowing love in creation as a foundation for understanding Jesus's death and its implications for those who follow him. This work offers an alternative vision, one emphasizing incarnation over atonement, for all those who find themselves uneasy or even oppressed by the notion of a vindictive God who demands the suffering and death of his son. The Mystery of God and Suffering also speaks to a larger audience, comprised of all those who suffer and search for meaning in their suffering. With a focus on the eternal concepts of life and love that are not simply integral to but inseparable from a God who is good, as well as on insights of believers through the ages, The Mystery of God and Suffering offers wise guidance for our journey into the abyss of suffering.

Is it possible to face the darkest days of life with hope and joy and purpose? The life of Colleen Chao was bright and beautiful—it was brimming with hope and possibility. She was a talented, confident, and ambitious young woman. So, Colleen never imagined that she’d swim through two decades of deep-water anxiety and depression. She didn’t guess that she’d marry late, suffer years of chronic pain and illness, and give birth to a child with health complications. And never in her life did she imagine hearing the words: “Cancer. Stage four. Terminal.” In the Hands of a Fiercely Tender God is born of the suffering that on its own could have crushed Colleen. Her pain, instead, opened her eyes to eternal realities and has wrought a soul of indestructible joy. How do we suffer long and well? What do we do when we feel cheated? How do we face pressing darkness? One thing Colleen has learned is that we cannot bear the suffering alone. We need lots of help. To that end, Colleen shares a precious devotional gift with the suffering soul: thirty-one days of wisdom, hope, and encouragement. Drawing upon stories from past saints, rich truths from Scripture, and habits that build joyful endurance, Colleen helps fellow sufferers to embrace one day at a time, to trust and love Jesus more, and put themselves In the Hands of a Fiercely Tender God.

The One Big Question written by Michael Baughen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-04 with Suffering categories.

Michael Baughen believes the biggest block against facing up to ‘real’ Christianity is suffering. This book is a comprehensive and very sensitive look at the whole issue, split into the ‘why’ of questioning the God of love and tackling a number of the questions thrown at Christians about suffering and the ‘how’ of knowing Him and ‘how’ to prepare for and handle suffering. Michael Baughen approaches these questions in a very balanced way, always seeking to point the reader to the cross of Christ and the love of God. He doesn’t try to placate or give trite answers. Interesting and thought-provoking this is a book for those who are struggling to understand and who have big questions. Such people are likely to come away challenged and hopefully, heartened with regard to God’s use of suffering in the lives of His broken people.
