"Forster and Marston have delivered a stellar book that attempts to present an exegetical and Scriptural framework for the content presented in the book. Instead of beginning from a set of deductive theological assumptions and then attempting to support that system from Scripture, Forster and Marston examine Scripture and attempt to build their case directly from the text. The authors unabashedly admit that their views are very similar to those of Arminian and Weslyan traditions, but they state in the beginning of the book that they do not want to be labeled with these names, but want to construct a theology that is in line with the teachings of the first 300 years of Christianity. Anyone who reads their appendix will come to understand that the teachings presented in this book were the orthodox consensus of the early Church for the first 300 years, and that it was Augustine who introduced serious deviations into the mainstream orthodox Christianity of his time. Forster and Marston begin by describing the battle that is being waged between God and the spiritual forces that oppose Him. They examine the book of Job and see how this relates to the overall struggle. Then the authors examine the 9th chapter of Romans to see if this book is dealing with election and individual destinies, or God's actions within human history. The authors do an excellent job of arguing for their opinion that this chapter is speaking about God's involvement in human history and it deals with God's choosing of one nation or individual over another nation or individual to accomplish His purpose. Other sections of interest in this book are the sections on foreknowledge and predestination and the chapters on faith and works. The section on faith and works was particularly interesting because it relies on much of the teaching of the new perspective which has shed much light on how a 1st century Palestinian Jew would have approached Scriptural issues. The research, argumenation, and exegesis in this book are solid so every chapter is excellent, but the ones mentioned above were two of my favorites."--Amazon.com.

This work is a fresh, unusually lucid approach to Christian theology and interfaith dialogue from India. Its basic aim is to examine "the Christian consciousness of God's work in history"--redemption history within the entire history of the world. It uses Christian Faith by Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834) as its main text, so as to view this theme "in a reversed order from the way it is presented there." This approach, which centers on God's "new creation" in Christ, leads to an incisive understanding of Christianity's relation to other modes of faith. Throughout, Dr. Kunnuthara compares the thought of another Indian Christian leader steeped in Hindu thought, Pandippedi Chenchiah (1886-1959), to enable renewed interfaith dialogue across a wide spectrum.

The Thread written by Ronald L. Dart and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06 with Religion categories.

There is a thread that runs from the beginning to the end of the Bible that few seem to understand. There are specific points along that thread where God chose to act in history. In the Bible, these are called, "the appointments" of God. Because they occurred in connection with events in Jewish history, the days took on the meaning of those events. But then came Jesus, and the great events of his life and work also took place on these appointments. Moreover, the future plans of Christ are also reflected in these appointments along the thread. Traditional beliefs say that the festivals came in with the old covenant and went out with the cross. But as you follow The Thread, you will find that explanation will not hold. The feasts we find in the Bible are transcendent, and from the very beginning pointed, not so much at Israel's history, but at the work and ministry of Jesus Christ in history. As you pick up The Thread and follow it, things will become clearer. The Festivals of Jehovah mark places where we can most easily find The Thread. You will understand how each of God's holidays points to Christ and impacts your life. Understanding this will simplify the Bible and deepen your understanding. This is a book you will read again and again and share with others.

In The History of God, the author offers a dialogue between himself and the two higher beings he has learned to contact and to channel, in order to find out about how and why the universe was created, and who God was and is. The discussions cover subjects from the development of human beings, and life in other dimensions. He finds out more about why humans are in the form that they are, and about other civilisations and beings. The History of God is thought-provoking, spiritually nurturing and offers endless food for thought about why we are here, and what more there is to life than we may first imagine.

A New History Of Redemption written by Gerald R. McDermott and has been published by Baker Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-19 with Religion categories.

Although Jesus's work of redemption is often viewed as a singular event, a careful examination of Scripture reveals that the Messiah began his redemptive work just after the fall and will continue it to the end of the world. In the spirit of Jonathan Edwards's History of the Work of Redemption, distinguished theologian Gerald McDermott traces the progress of redemption throughout the Bible and Church history. This book connects the dots surrounding Israel, redemption by the Jewish Messiah, secular and sacred history, the world religions, and Jewish-Christian worship through liturgy and sacraments. It shows how Jesus as Messiah was redeeming throughout Old Testament history, and it carries that story up through the last two millennia. McDermott contends that it is only through a historical examination of the Messiah's redemption amid the turmoil of the world and the worship of his people that one can best see God's beauty.

Excerpt from The Hand of God in History: Or Divine Providence Historically; Illustrated in the Extension and Establishment of Christianity The writer of the following pages believes his subject timely. Perhaps as never before, the minds of the most sagacious writers of our age are watching with profound and pious interest the progress of human events. The aim of the author has been to make the work historical, at least so abounding in narrative, anecdote, biography, and in the de lineations of men and things in real life, as to commend it to the general reader; and at the same time to reveal at every step the Hand Of God overruling the events Of history, to subserve his one great end: an attempt to contribute a mite to rescue history from the melancholy abuse under which it has lain almost to the present time. History, when rightly written, is but a record of providence; and he who would read history rightly, must read it with his eye constantly fixed on the hand of God. Every change, every revolution in human affairs is m the mind of God, a movement to the consumma tion of the great work of redemption. There is no doubt at the present time, a growing tendency so to write and so to understand history. And if the writer has contributed any thing to advance a consummation so devoutly to be wished, he will feel that he has not labored in vain. Excerpt from God in History: Or Facts Illustrative of the Presence and Providence of God in the Affairs of Men The basis of the following little work was a lecture delivered in Exeter Hall by request of that excellent institution, the "Young Men's Christian Association." It was found impossible to present more than a sketch or outline in a lecture. The present treatise is an attempt to fill up the outline, by embodying in it facts, and incidents, and occurrences, necessarily omitted, or briefly alluded to, in the lecture. The subject is an intensely interesting one - rich in suggestive illustrations, and practical in so far as it comes home to the bosom and business of every man. The author has avoided introducing subjects on which his mind is fully made up, but on which there is much difference of opinion among good and wise men. It was his design, and it is his desire, to point out the presence of God rather in facts acknowledged by all, than in discussions raised on those facts by conflicting parties.
