In this hour of all-but-universal darkness one cheering gleam appears: within the fold of conservative Christianity there are to be found increasing numbers of persons whose religious lives are marked by a growing hunger after God Himself. They are eager for spiritual realities and will not be put off with words, nor will they be content with correct "interpretations" of truth. They are a thirst for God, and they will not be satisfied till they have drunk deep at the Fountain of Living Water. This is the only real harbinger of revival which I have been able to detect anywhere on the religious horizon. It may be the cloud the size of a man's hand for which a few saints here and there have been looking. It can result in a resurrection of life for many souls and a recapture of that radiant wonder which should accompany faith in Christ, that wonder which has all but fled the Church of God in our day.

The Books of Adam and Eve is a series of texts from "The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament." Books 1 and 2 begin immediately after the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, and end with the testament and translation of Enoch. Great emphasis is placed in Book 1 on Adam's sorrow and helplessness in the world outside the garden. In Book 2, the "sons of God" who appear in Genesis 6:2 are identified as the children of Seth, and the "daughters of men" as women descended from Cain, who successfully tempt most of the Sethites to come down from their mountain and join the Cainites in the valley below, under the instigation of Genun son of Lamech. This Genun, as the inventor of musical instruments, seems to correspond the Biblical Jubal; however he also invents weapons of war. The Cainites, descended from Cain the first murderer, are described as exceedingly wicked, being prone to commit murder and incest. After seducing the Sethites, their offspring become the Nephilim, the "mighty men" of Gen. 6 who are all destroyed in the deluge, as also detailed in other works such as I Enoch and Jubilees. Books 3 and 4 continue with the lives of Noah, Shem, Melchizedek, etc. through to the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus in AD 70. The genealogy from Adam to Jesus is given, as in the Gospels, but including also the names of the wives of each of Jesus' ancestors, which is extremely rare. THERE seem to be many, in our day, who are seeking God. Yet they appear to be but "feeling after him in order to find him," as if he were either a distant or an "unknown God." They forget that "he is NOT FAR from every one of us," (Acts xvii. 27); for "in him we live, and move, and have our being." To know that He is not far; that he has come down; that he has come nigh; this is the "beginning of the gospel." It gives direct denial to the vain thoughts of those who think that they must bring Him nigh they by their prayers and devout performances. He has shewn himself to us, that we may know him, and in knowing him find the life of our souls. With some, who name the name of Christ, religion is a very unfinished thing. It is by no means satisfactory either to the man himself, or to the onlookers. There is much awaiting. The man is anxious and earnest, but if he has not "peace with God," he has not what God calls "religion." Acceptance with God lies at the foundation of all religion; for there must be an accepted worshipper, before there can be acceptable worship. Religion is with many merely the means of averting God's displeasure, and securing his favor. It is often irksome, but they do not feel easy in neglecting it; and they hope that by it they will obtain forgiveness before they die. This, however, is the inversion of God's order, and is in reality the worship of an unknown God. It terminates in

This classic work, originally published in 1911, is presented here in a new revised, illustrated and annotated edition of "On Union with God" includes: Beautiful illustrations throughout the book. Footnote commentary to elucidate the text. Ideas for reflection drawn from the text added at the end of each chapter. Archaic language is modernized (e.g. "thou" to "you.") "As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God." (Psalm 42:1) This psalm encapsulates the theme of On Union With God. The deepest and purest yearning of the human soul is to be one with God. Toward the end of a lifetime spent in this pursuit, the teacher of St. Thomas Aquinas, Saint Albert the Great, wrote this short treatise sharing with all of us in simple and clear language the way to live in love with God. He begins by describing how a person reaches this ideal, when stripped of all other things, completely recollected and forgotten by the world, lives in solitude and silence in the presence of Jesus Christ. In the first chapter, Albert presents: There, in solitude of soul, with loving confidence he makes known his desires to God. With all the intensity of his love he pours forth his heart before Him, in sincerity and truth, until he loses himself in God. Then is his heart enlarged, inflamed, and melted in him, yes, even in its inmost depths. In the following 15 chapters, Albert goes on to explain briefly and simply the steps on the pathway to God, for example how to despise all things and cling to Christ; how we must use our intellect and not the senses to find God; how we must cultivate purity of heart and mind; how to practice interior recollection. He further explains the necessity of resignation and desire to unite our will to the Divine Will. He explains how to endure trials and resist temptation, of God's power and love for mankind. He speaks of interior recollection and the advantages of pray, of keeping a right conscience and humility of soul. Finally, he reflects on God's provident and loving care of all of His creatures. This little book is written in a simple style, easy to follow, yet profound. It is a classic work on the spiritual life. As such, it is the kind of book you want to keep on your bookshelf to read over and over. Each time you read, you discover something new-a deeper meaning, a revelation of some aspect of God or the spiritual life you had not thought of, a new idea about your own life and journey toward God. In short, it is a book you will treasure.
