In recent years, with the rapid industrial and commercial development and large concentration of population, making the water demand increasingly. Because of insufficient use of surface water, the type of seasonal rainfall, topography special, short steep rivers, water is not easy to grasp, resulting in a large number of dug wells. Due to the low cost of groundwater, water quality and quantity is more stable than the surface water, resulting in a large number of cut excessive pumping phenomenon. The nature replenishment slowly can not keep up Drilling wells, then water environment caused irreparable harm. Pay attention to illegal wells, investigation of wells difficulty and pumping groundwater will cause subsidence and salinization and water resources in coastal areas lead to soil salinization, and so the situation must immediately investigate and evaluate the necessity for sealing and fill wells. In this study, the water quality is estimated by means of empirical method, measure method of water flow in wells and the electricity consumption method for each industries of pumping water to develop the land subsidence control program in different regions. At the same time, discuss the reduced and sunk amount of the water table to provide follow-up study of academic. After the analysis of research that there is no inventory of the six districts of Tainan industrial wells. Compare the divergence of industry of quantity come from the Taiwan Water Corporation and emissions of water of Environmental Protection Agency of Tainan City Government, there were kind of three industry the more emissions of water than quantity we found: Community sewage systems, buildings, and the industry of non-industrial areas. Than we remove the possibility of pumping well of the first two after researching, but suspected of pumping wells of 8 industry include the Dyeing, electroplating, and department stores, while it need the water large quantity and no reason to prove the different of quantity. The result for investigating the wells in agriculture that as follows: there is 7 wells and estimated amount of water is 7,900 tons/year in Eastern District; 159 wells and estimated amount of water is 172,300 tons/year in Southern District; 33 wells and estimated amount of water is 62,100 tons/year in Annan District, then there is no well in North Distric and Central Western District, Anping District. Assess the necessity for wells sealing and fill through the environmental score factor. The six Distric of Tainan are part of control area of groundwater, although the government initiate powerfully, the populaces.

Andy Kirkpatrick and and Zhichang Xu offer a response to the argument that Chinese students’ academic writing in English is influenced by “culturally nuanced rhetorical baggage that is uniquely Chinese and hard to eradicate.” Noting that this argument draws from “an essentially monolingual and Anglo-centric view of writing,” they point out that the rapid growth in the use of English worldwide calls for “a radical reassessment of what English is in today’s world.” The result is a book that provides teachers of writing, and in particular those involved in the teaching of English academic writing to Chinese students, an introduction to key stages in the development of Chinese rhetoric, a wide-ranging field with a history of several thousand years. Understanding this important rhetorical tradition provides a strong foundation for assessing and responding to the writing of this growing group of students.

In On Their Own Terms, Benjamin A. Elman offers a much-needed synthesis of early Chinese science during the Jesuit period (1600-1800) and the modern sciences as they evolved in China under Protestant influence (1840s-1900). By 1600 Europe was ahead of Asia in producing basic machines, such as clocks, levers, and pulleys, that would be necessary for the mechanization of agriculture and industry. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Elman shows, Europeans still sought from the Chinese their secrets of producing silk, fine textiles, and porcelain, as well as large-scale tea cultivation. Chinese literati borrowed in turn new algebraic notations of Hindu-Arabic origin, Tychonic cosmology, Euclidian geometry, and various computational advances. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, imperial reformers, early Republicans, Guomindang party cadres, and Chinese Communists have all prioritized science and technology. In this book, Elman gives a nuanced account of the ways in which native Chinese science evolved over four centuries, under the influence of both Jesuit and Protestant missionaries. In the end, he argues, the Chinese produced modern science on their own terms.

In China the tradition of a book society is longer than anywhere else in the world. Chinese paper making, calligraphy and woodblock printing date from very early ages, but have for a very long time remained almost unknown to the Western world. At the IFLA satellite meeting “Chinese Written and Printed Cultural Heritage and Library Work” in Hangzhou in 2006 the richness of present day book historical research and library activities in China has been presented by more than sixty papers. This fine selection reflects the width and depth of this extremely important and immense Chinese heritage.

"Extraordinarily timely and useful. As China emerges as an economic and political world power that seems to have done away with religion, in fact it is witnessing a religious revival. The thoughtful essays in this book show both the historical conflicts between state authorities and religious movements and the contemporary encounters that are shaping China's future. I am aware of no other book that covers so much ground and can be used so well as an introduction to this important field." —Peter van der Veer, University of Utrecht

Chinese History In Economic Perspective written by Thomas G. Rawski and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-26 with History categories.

This volume marks a turning point in the study of Chinese economic history. It arose from a realization that the economic history of China—as opposed to the history of the Chinese economy—had yet to be written. Most histories of the Chinese economy, whether by Western or Chinese scholars, tend to view the economy in institutional or social terms. In contrast, the studies in this volume break new ground by systematically applying economic theory and methods to the study of China. While demonstrating to historians the advantages of an economic perspective, the contributors, comprising both historians and economists, offer important new insights concerning issues of long-standing interest to both disciplines. Part One, on price behavior, presents for the first time preliminary analyses of the incomparably rich and important grain price data from the imperial archives in Beijing and Taibei during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911). These studies reveal long-term trends in the Chinese economy since the seventeenth century and contain surprising discoveries about market integration, the agricultural economy, and demographic behavior in different regions of China. The essays in Part Two, on market response, deal with different aspects of the economy of Republican China (1912–49), showing that markets for land, labor, and capital sometimes functioned as predicted by models of economic "rationality" but at other times behaved in ways that can be explained only by combining economic analysis with knowledge of political, regional, class, and gender differences. Based on new types of data, they suggest novel interpretations of the Chinese economic experience. The resulting collection is interdisciplinary scholarship of a high order, which weaves together the analytic framework provided by economic theory and the rich texture of social phenomena gathered by accomplished historians.
