Richard Wagner's vast Ringcycle, comprising four full-length operas, is arguably the most extraordinary achievement in the history of opera. His libretto to the work is more than a literary work of art: its intricate system of metric patterns, imaginative metaphors, ample use of alliteration - together with its singability - combine to create something unique, so that the music is embedded in the text. This volume presents Rudolph Sabor's translation of the libretto to the final opera of the tetralogy, Götterdämmerung. This new translation, which runs side-by-side with the German text, preserves the original metre and elucidates the complexities of Wagner's intricate libretto. It is unprecedented in presenting next to the translation not only a running commentary on the drama but also the names of the leitmotifs as they occur. The translation is supplemented by scene-by-scene synopses, short discussions of each leitmotif new to each scene, a discography, videography, and full bibliography. Lists of all motifs in the opera and all motifs in the Ring cycle conclude the volume. Rudolph Sabor has also translated the librettos to the other three operas of the cycle, and a companion volume of essays relating to Wagner's Ring completes the series. Ranging from a discussion of Wagner's Literary sources to a review of the Ring's performance history, the essays provide a prodigious treasury of information for the Wagner enthusiast. The books can be enjoyed individually or as a series; either way they will equip the Wagner enthusiast with a fund of information to make the Ringjourney more rewarding.

Former “clandestine” photographer and now undisputed protagonist of the reunited German capital’s underground art scene and front-man at the Berghain, Berlin’s most famous club, with its ten-year history known worldwide for its uniqueness. Through Marquardt’s unmistakable style, poised between intimacy and voyeurism, a selection of more than sixty photographs tells the story of Berlin’s social and cultural evolution and transformations from the raging years of the Cold War to the hedonism of today. Sven Marquardt (East Berlin, 1962) lives and works in Berlin. He formed himself as camera operator at the DEFA (the studios of public property of the DDR) and through the collaboration with the photographer Rudolf Schäfer. He began his career in the early 80s, publishing the first pictures on the periodicals “Der Sonntag” and “Das Magazin”. In parallel with his work as fashion photographer, Marquardt began to document the underground scene of East Berlin. After the fall of the Wall, Marquardt curated the campaigns for Levi’s during the Berlin Fashion Week in 2011 and for Hugo Boss in 2014. This fantastic Pasolini compendium examines the great Italian director and author's life through a detailed survey of his films. Opening with Accattone (1961) and closing with Salò (1975), followed by a section on unrealized works, Pier Paolo Pasolini: My Cinema devotes a chapter to each of Pasolini's movies, supplementing stills and a wealth of documentary material with extended commentary by Pasolini on each film, in the form of interviews, journal notes, stories and essays, as well as screenplay excerpts.
