The intersection of time and eternality was a well-known theme in the ancient world. All spiritual and social activities were located within the framework of time and it was considered to be the conducting line for the manifestation of other realms into the human realms. They can also be called apertures for capturing and holding certain eternal possibilities in place so that a human being with such knowledge may momentarily step out of the constriction of materiality into the realms of the eternal. How time affects us and how we may be able to use its various dimensions for our breakthrough and, yes, the transformation and calibration of our communal life together, is one of the major themes of biblical narratives. I am of the view that various ways in which concepts of time occur in biblical narrative can serve as a creative spiritual technology for awakening and maintain godly consciousness. Times and seasons affect work and productivity in everyday existence, the material universe, and even our material bodies. The vigor of our spiritual movements can be enhanced or lost based on how we engage and utilize time within its various nomenclatures found in biblical narratives. For much of us in the modern world, time passes us by or we merely glide through it, except for the occasional material boon that may come our way because we have temporally capitalized upon it. But per my reading of scripture, time is a multi-perspectival, multi-utilitarian, multi-spectral flow of eternity that affords those conscious of its divine power the ability to transform and transmute creation in all kinds of ways. In this book, we will learn about what God wants us to understand concerning the various concepts of time, as well as the different Hebrew words for time. The Bible says that you and I have eternity hidden in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Many things can block our access to eternity, making it diificult for us to have enough time because the only time that matters is the time connected to eternity where the flow is constant. We will delve into mysteries in this book and learn to master the ways of this magnificent technology of time that God has given us. Adonijah O. Ogbonnaya, Ph.D.

In this important new book, Christopher Pollitt, one of the leading researchers in public policy and management, argues that we are guilty of neglecting a fundamental dimension of both the practice and study of contemporary public policymaking and management: that of time. Pollitt traces the character of, and the reasons for, this neglect in his wide-ranging study. He considers the theoretical options for addressing time in a more sophisticated way, and applies these perspectives both to his own research and that of many others. Finally he looks at the implications for practitioners. Pollitt's analysis draws on an exceptionally wide range of work from many fields, sectors, and countries. It is rich in examples, concepts, and methods. It poses fundamental questions about some central tendencies in 21st century policymaking, and opens up a new direction for academic research.

America finds itself in a moment of profound and complex governing challenges. A crushing recession followed by a feeble recovery have shaken the foundations of our financial and economic system. We are struggling with the exploding costs of health-care and entitlement spending, and fiscal disaster looms as our society ages. American families are anxious about wage stagnation, barriers to social mobility, and the nation's competitiveness in an era of globalization. Meanwhile, our large governing institutions -- most of them designed several decades ago -- are showing signs of strain and decay, calling out for serious reform. National Affairs, a quarterly journal of essays on domestic policy and political economy, was launched in 2009 to help Americans think more clearly about these problems and to develop promising solutions. This book is a collection of some of the most timely and concrete policy proposals published in the journal's pages, offering ideas for reforming our welfare state, our tax system, financial regulation, monetary policy, education, state finances, and more. Each essay was written by a prominent expert in the field--the authors are all notable right-leaning academics, policy experts, former government officials, or think tank scholars with national reputations. The book thus comprises a ready-made domestic policy agenda for conservative policymakers (including a Republican president, should one be elected in 2012), based on the latest and best thinking from the world of conservative policy intellectuals. It will be the only resource of its kind in this election year--a one-stop-shop for conservative policy ideas.

Excerpt from The Governing Race: A Book for the Time, and for All Times From the above expressions of the anti-slavery party - and volumes might be filled with the like bitter invectives against the system - it must be plain to every reflecting mind that this fierce and agitating controversy cannot be settled by compromises. It is a question between right and wrong, morally, not politically considered; it is, therefore, taken out of the reach of expediency altogether. Even the most upright and patriotic statesmen, were they wise and self-sacrificing as those who won our independence and framed the Constitution, could not settle this now vexed question. Those who deny the right of man to hold another man in the bondage of slavery spurn the authority of the Constitution and the laws of Congress; they appeal to a "higher law." There must, then, be found somewhere moral power to compel obedience to the Constitution of the United States, or the Union will be dissolved, or resort had to physical force. The law of God is the rule directing and compelling a rational creature in moral and religious actions. There is no moral lawgiver save the Lord God. There is no code of His divine law save that contained in the Bible. Let us, then, people of the United States, take up this momentous question in the true spirit of Christian obedience to God's law; seeking, reverently, to understand what is set forth in the Old and New Testaments concerning slavery, and submitting ourselves to the authority of the Bible as the only unerring standard of truth and righteousness. The Bible gives us three notable instances of laws in which our Creator imposed certain specified penalties for sin on certain classes of the human race. The first was God's sentence on Adam for eating the forbidden fruit. "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread." The ground was cursed for his sake, (or sin, ) and all his sons, to the end of time, were subjected to the same hard necessity of labor. Will any Christian say that this sentence of God was unjust? Will any man of right reason contend that this judgment ever has been set aside without worse evils to the human race than hard labor being the result? When the penalty for disobedience - death - was for a time remitted to fallen man, was not hard labor the best condition in which he could be placed for his repentance and reformation? If Adam and all his descendants had submitted to the punishment, and had "done well" their work, would they not have been accepted of the Lord? Governing Masculinities In The Early Modern Period written by Jacqueline Van Gent and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with History categories.

Documenting lived experiences of men in charge of others, this collection creates a social and cultural history of early modern governing masculinities. It examines the tensions between normative discourses and lived experiences and their manifestations in a range of different sources; and, explores the insecurities, anxieties and instability of masculine governance and the ways in which these were expressed (or controlled) in emotional states, language or performance. Focussing on moments of exercising power, this collection seeks to understand the methods, strategies, discourses or resources that men were able (or not) to employ in order to have this power. In order to elucidate the mechanisms of male governance the essays explore the following questions: how was male governance demonstrated and enacted through men's (and women's) bodies? What roles did women play in sustaining, supporting or undermining governing masculinities? And what are the relationship of specific spaces such as household or urban environments to notions and practice of governance? Finally, this collection emphasises the power of sources to articulate the ideas of governance held by particular social groups and to obscure those of others. Through a rich and wide range of case studies, this collection explores what distinctions can be seen in ideas of authoritative masculine behaviour across Protestant and Catholic cultures, British and Continental models, from the late medieval to the end of the eighteenth century, and between urban and national expressions of authority.
