"Sagen was Sache ist". [Saying what is the Matter. Attempts of Explorative Ethics] "Saying what is the matter". In this Festschrift, national and international colleagues and companions present attempts inspired by Hans Ulrich's program of "explorative ethics", as it has been shaped by Luther's famous dictum. Explorative ethics does neither prescribe nor merely describe; instead, it explores what is given to human beings through God's word and creative action. Explorative ethics is the domain of homo viator, homo totus, and homo politicus, all in one. Contributors explore core traditions of Christian ethics such as charity, mercy, justice, good works, forgiveness and discipleship, key questions such as "good and evil" or the relationship between divine and human action, alongside issues of material ethics such as the new media, politics of peace and the politics of trash. On top of these, the volume features some more narrative accounts of innovative interdisciplinary cooperation that Hans Ulrich championed in various fields.

Fundamental Moral Theology written by Franz Böckle and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1980 with Religion categories.

In the fifteen years since the Second Vatican Council, no aspect of theology has undergone such thorough scrutiny as that of moral theology. Furthermore, the discussions have not been the exclusive concern of churchmen. Theologians have entered into dialogue with everyone who is in any way preoccupied with the need to improve social order. Thus the insights of all the human and social sciences have been brought to bear in the task of reassessment and restructuring. This book presents a comprehensive scheme of moral theology which is relevant to the moral and intellectual climate of the latter decades of the twentieth century.

Morals From Motives written by Michael Slote and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Philosophy categories.

"Morals from Motives defends its approach against criticisms that naturally occur to those skeptical of basing the morality of right and wrong action in independently admirable motives. It also argues that ideally, good people will in general be concerned about helping people rather than about (conscientiously) doing their duty. But the book's largest positive aim is to show that virtue ethics isn't limited to ancient prototypes and can especially benefit from ideas deriving from eighteenth-century moral sentimentalism and from recent thinking about the "feminine" morality of caring."--BOOK JACKET.

Reasons And The Good written by Roger Crisp and has been published by Clarendon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-08-24 with Philosophy categories.

In Reasons and the Good Roger Crisp answers some of the oldest questions in moral philosophy. Claiming that a fundamental issue in normative ethics is what ultimate reasons for action we might have, he argues that the best statements of such reasons will not employ moral concepts. He investigates and explains the nature of reasons themselves; his account of how we come to know them combines an intuitionist epistemology with elements of Pyrrhonist scepticism. He defends a hedonistic theory of well-being and an account of practical reason according to which we can give some, though not overriding, priority to our own good over that of others. The book develops original lines of argument within a framework of some traditional but currently less popular views.

Philosophy Of The Sign written by Josef Simon and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-01 with Philosophy categories.

In this book, Simon wields Ockham's razor like a scythe to argue historically and systematically for a coherent philosophy of the sign as sign with an unprecedented minimum of ontological and semantical commitments. Deconstructing Plato, Frege, and Husserl, he accounts for signs without positing the existence either of meanings which they express or of things to which they refer. Indeed, he shows that one cannot understand anything that is not a sign, so that one never gets to meanings without signs or things beyond signs.

George Eliot S Intellectual Life written by Avrom Fleishman and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-18 with Literary Criticism categories.

It is well known that George Eliot's intelligence and her wide knowledge of literature, history, philosophy and religion shaped her fiction, but until now no study has followed the development of her thinking through her whole career. This intellectual biography traces the course of that development from her initial Christian culture, through her loss of faith and working out of a humanistic and cautiously progressive world view, to the thought-provoking achievements of her novels. It focuses on her responses to her reading in her essays, reviews and letters as well as in the historical pictures of Romola, the political implications of Felix Holt, the comprehensive view of English society in Middlemarch, and the visionary account of personal inspiration in Daniel Deronda. This portrait of a major Victorian intellectual is an important addition to our understanding of Eliot's mind and works, as well as of her place in nineteenth-century British culture.
