The relativistic theory of gravity presented in this work is constructed as a field theory of the gravitational field within the framework of special relativity theory. The starting point is the hypothesis that a universal characteristic of matter -- the energy-momentum tensor -- serves as the source of gravity. The gravitational field is considered to be a universal physical field with spins 2 and 0, owing to the action of which the effective Riemannian space arises. This permits finding a gauge group and unambiguously constructing the Lagrangian density of the gravitational field. The set of equations of this theory is generally covariant and form-invariant with respect to the Lorentz group. Here the introduction of the graviton mass into the theory is necessarily required. The graviton mass substantially influences the Universe evolution and alters the nature of the gravitational collapse. In the work a further development is presented of the ideas of H. Poincare, H. Minkowski, A. Einstein,D. Hilbert, N. Rosen, V.A. Fock, S. Gupta, W. Thirring and S. Weinberg in the theory of relativity and gravity.

The Theory of Inverse Gravity, proposed in this book by Antonio Carlos Pinto, challenges Einstein's paradigm of General Relativity (GR) by introducing a fifth fundamental force: a repulsive gravity that acts selectively on radiant energy, such as photons, plasma and polaritons, in opposition to the gravitational attraction of matter. This book deals with the relationship between gravitation and elementary particle physics, and the implications of these subjects for astrophysics. There has, in recent years, been renewed interest in theories that connect up gravitation and particle physics, and in the astrophysical consequences of such theories. Some of these accounts involve a time-variation of the Newtonian gravitational parameter, G. In this respect, the present book may be regarded as a companion to my Cosmology and Geophysics (Hilger, Bristol, 1978). There is some overlap as regards the discussion of G-variability, but the emphasis in the present book is on astrophysics while the emphasis in the other one is on geophysics. The subject is a very broad one indeed, and in giving a review of it I have adopted a somewhat unorthodox way of presenting the material involved. The main reason for this is that a review of such a wide subject should aim at two levels: the level of the person who is interested in it, and the level of the person who is professionally engaged in research into it. To achieve such a two-level coverage, I have split the text up into two parts. The first part (Chapters 1-7) represents a relatively non-technical overview of the subject, while the second part (Chapters 8-11) represents a technical examination of the most important aspects of non-Einsteinian gravitational theory and its relation to astrophysics.

This book focuses on the need for and development of a rigorous Nonequilibrium Thermodynamic Theory, as a foundation on which to construct a relativistic particle theory that in turn serves as a self-consistent basis for our reasoning in the quantum, cosmological and life sciences, at the farthest extremes of organized complexity ? and the farthest removes from equilibrium. This work is a detailed study of both the theoretical and phenomenological consequences of a massive graviton, within the ghost-free theory of massive gravity, the de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) theory. Its aim is to test the physical viability of the theory. It begins by putting constraints on the parameters of the theory in the decoupling limit based on purely theoretical grounds, like classical stability in the cosmological evolution of self-accelerating and degravitating solutions. The author then constructs a proxy theory to massive gravity from the decoupling limit resulting in non-minimally coupled scalar-tensor interactions as an example of a subclass of Horndeski theories. Lastly, she addresses the natural question of whether the parameters introduced in the dRGT theory are subject to strong renormalization by quantum loops and shows how the non-renormalization theorem protects the graviton mass from quantum corrections. Beyond the decoupling limit the quantum corrections are found to be proportional to the graviton mass, proving its technical naturalness.
